M.S: Hola, muchas gracias por tomaros unos minutos para responder a nuestras preguntas. En primer lugar, ¿cómo estáis?
Hola, muchas gracias a vosotros por la entrevista. Yo soy Ippei J. Malmsteen, guitarrista de Eleanor. Además de la próxima edición del MFVF este otoño, el número de directos que estamos planeando en Japón ha aumentado, así que últimamente estamos muy ocupados preparándonos para todo ello.
M.S: Ya que es la primera vez que tenemos una entrevista con vosotros aquí en Metal Symphony, nos gustaría que os presentarais a nuestros lectores, hablando un poco sobre de dónde venís, cómo se formó la banda, cuáles son vuestras influencias…
El grupo Eleanor se formó en 2005, en la segunda ciudad más grande de Japón, Osaka. Queríamos hacer una banda que tocara música heavy pero con un toque triste dentro de la melodía. Lanzamos nuestro álbum debut (A Circle Of Lament) en 2008, y en este 2013 lanzamos lo que será nuestro segundo disco (Breath Life Into The Essence). Nuestras influencias están fuertemente basadas en la música metal europea, como por ejemplo, grupos como Sentenced, Amorphis, The Gathering, Anathema, etc. Esa influencia, mezclada con nuestra herencia japonesa, condujo a la creación del original estilo de música de Eleanor.
M.S. Para aquellos que no hayan escuchado vuestra música aún, ¿qué temas les recomendaríais para tener una idea de vuestro sonido?
Nos gustaría que escucharan "Fatal Movement", una canción de nuestro segundo disco Breath Life Into The Essence. Se puede ver el vídeo oficial en :
Esta canción incluye muchos elementos de nuestro estilo musical. También estamos trabajando en un nuevo videoclip, y planeamos tenerlo listo un poco antes del MFVF, así que por favor estad atentos a ello.
M.S: ¿Tenéis algún material disponible para compra o descarga? En ese caso, ¿dónde podemos encontrarlo?

M.S: Después de 11 años, ¿qué creéis que tiene todavía el MFVF para ofrecer al público?
No hay otros festivales de metal que se centren en voces femeninas como el MFVF. Gracias al hecho de que ha continuado durante 11 años, nosotros, Eleanor, tenemos la oportunidad de poder actuar alli, y más aún de conocer a los fans europeos. Estamos convencidos, y esperamos, que el MFVF seguirá creciendo.
M.S: Y de vuestra parte, ¿qué ofreceréis a la gente que vaya y vea vuestra actuación?
Esperamos llegar a los corazones de los fans de metal europeos con una tristeza que sobrecoja el corazón, de lleno en la melodía a través de las canciones. También, como Eleanor tiene dos cantantes femeninas, la principal Shiori Vitus y Jet Rumi en los coros, nuestra puesta en escena debería poner una nota de diferencia con el resto de grupos.
M.S: ¿Algún favorito que tengáis intención de ver cuando toquen en el festival?
Casi todos los componentes del grupo somos grandes fans de The Gathering, así que vamos a ver a Anneke van Giersbergen en el escenario seguro. Durante mucho tiempo siempre he querido al menos verla una vez en directo, así que le hecho de que estaremos actuando en el mismo escenario es algo que estoy esperando con ganas.
M.S: Si fuera posible hacer una jam session con cualquier miembro de los participantes en esta edición del MFVF, ¿quiénes serían vuestros elegidos? Más de un nombre es posible 
Me encantaría de veras hacer una jam con Anneke, aunque seguramente mis dedos se quedarían frígidos de los nervios…
M.S: Hablando de otros festivales, normalmente no hay más que un par de grupos de metal femenino y normalmente, los elegidos tienden a ser aquellos que han sido activos por más de 10 años o así, grupos como Epica, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil… ¿Cuál es tu opinión al respecto?
Los términos para estar cualificado en otros festivales es probablemente la fama y la habilidad de tener un nivel equivalente al de los grupos que son más conocidos en el mundo.
Por otro lado, a pesar de que el MFVF es un festival muy emocionante en el que las divas del metal de toda Europa se reúnen, ha dado la oportunidad a un grupo recién llegado como el nuestro para actuar allí. Y por ello nos sentimos muy honrados
MS: Y profundizando en este tema, ¿creéis que aún hay vida para este género? ¿Hay cosas que explorar más allá de las bastamente conocidas voces líricas con música metal? Sabemos que hay grupos con voces guturales (incluso femeninas), y otras intentan mezclar esa música con otros estilos como el electrónico y otros, pero sigue habiendo gente que no va a ir más allá de la primera noción…
De si hay o no vida aun para el género, es una pregunta extremadamente difícil de responder, pero como un fan del metal a nivel individual me gustaría observar hasta dónde puede llegar. Los grupos que carecen de una característica única u originalidad acaban desapareciendo por selección natural. Así como algunos grupos de metal sinfónico que fueron populares durante cierto tiempo, ahora han reducido en número. La música que Eleanor tiene que ofrecer no tiene nada que ver con los estilos de metal más populares. Somos muy consciente del lucro y el vacío de perseguir el estilo de moda.
M.S: Cambiando de tema, ¿qué planes tenéis para el futuro próximo? ¿Algún concierto o grabación a parte del festival?
A los fans de Japón que desafortunadamente no puedan venir a vernos en Bélgica, estamos actuando casi cada semana desde finales de agosto hasta mediados de septiembre.
Es como un preludio antes del MFVF
Además, estamos grabando el segundo videoclip. Creo que conseguirá una perspectiva ligeramente diferente de "Fatal Movement", que ya ha salido. Esperad a verlo
M.S: El MFVF reúne grupos de diferentes países, ¿cuáles recomendarías de tu propio país?
Stabat Mater, Sincerity Green, The Grail Of Sics, and Darkness Rose, etc. Son todos grupos con un increible potencial.

M.S: Hi, thanks a lot for taking a few minutes to answer to our questions. First of all, how are you?
(Ippei) Hi, thanks also for interviewing us. I’m Ippei J. Malmsteen, eleanor’s guitarist. Including the upcoming MFVF in autumn, the number of lives we are planning to perform in Japan have increased, so recently we are busy readying ourselves for these.
M.S: As it is the first time we get to have an interview with you here at Metal Symphony, we’d like you to introduce yourselves to our readers talking a bit about where are you coming from, how was your band formed, what are your influences…
(Ippei) The band eleanor was formed in 2005, in the second biggest city of Japan, Osaka. We wanted to make a band that would play a heavy music, with an also a sad touch inside the melody. We released our debut album [ A Circle Of Lament] in 2008, and in this year 2013, released what will be our 2nd album [ Breathe Life Into The Essence ]. Our influences are heavily based on the metal music of Europe, for instance, SENTENCED, AMORPHIS, THE GATHERING, ANATHEMA, etc… That influence, mixed with our Japanese receptive, led to the making of eleanor’s original music style.
M.S: For those who haven’t listened to your music yet, which songs would you strongly recommend for them to have an idea of your sound?
(Ippei) We would like for them to listen to [ Fatal Movement ], a song from our second album [ Breathe Life Into The Essence]. You can watch the official music video at: http://youtu.be/f1EoPuREGxo
This song includes many elements of our musical style. We are also working on a new music video, and plan to have it done shortly before the MFVF, so please look forward to it.

M.S: After 11 years, what do you think the MFVF still has to offer to the audience?
(Ippei) There are no metal fests that center on female singers other than MFVF. Thanks to the fact that it has continued for 11 years, we, eleanor were allowed the opportunity to perform, and moreover meet the metal fans in Europe. We genuinely think, and hope that MFVF will continue to develop.
M.S: And on your side, what will you offer to the people that will go there and see your performance?
(Ippei) We hope to grasp the hearts of the European metal fans with a chest tightening sadness, full in the melody throughout the songs. Also, since eleanor has two female singers, the main vocal Shiori Vitus, and Jet Rumi as the chorus, our staging should differ in this sense from the other bands.
M.S: Any favourites you intend to see on the fest when they are on stage?
(Ippei) Almost all our members are great fans of THE GATHERING, so we intend to see ANNEKE VAN GIERSBERGEN on stage no matter what. For a long time, I’ve always wanted to at least see her on stage for once, so the fact that we’ll be performing on the same stage this time is really something to look forward to.
M.S: If a jam session could happen with any members of those participating in this MFVF’s edition’s line-up, who would be your chosen ones for? More than one name is possible 😉
(Ippei) I would certainly like to do a jam with ANNEKE, even though my fingers would probably go frigid from nervousness…
M.S: Talking about other fests, you usually don’t get more than a couple of bands off the femme-metal genre, and normally, the chosen ones tend to be picked up from those who have been active for more than 10 years or so, bands like Epica, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil… What’s your opinion on this issue?
(Ippei) The terms for being qualified at other fests, is probably fame and ability that is of an equal level to the well-known metal bands around the world.
On the other hand, although MFVF is an exciting fest where the metal divas from all around Europe gather together, it gave a nameless newcomer like us the possibility to perform. On this we consider ourselves very honored.
MS: And going deeper into this topic, do you consider there’s still life for the genre? Is there more to explore beyond the "so well-know lyrical voices with metal music"? We know there are bands with gutural voices (even female ones), and others are trying mixing this music with other types like electronic and some others, but there’s still people who won’t look further from that first notion…
(Ippei) Whether or not there is still life for the genre is an extremely difficult question, but as an individual metal fan, I for one would like to stay an observer as to where the genre will lead. Bands that lack a uniqueness or originality disappear from natural selection. Just as the symphonic metal bands that were popular for a certain period, have now decreased in number. The music eleanor has to give has nothing to do with the popular metal styles. We well know the ludicrousness, and emptiness of chasing the latest style from behind.
M.S: Changing topics, what are you up to these days? Any concert or recording apart from the fest?
(Ippei) For the fans in Japan who unfortunately cannot come to Belgium to see us, we are performing almost every week from the end of August until the middle of September.
Sort of a prelude before the upcoming MFVF.
Also, we were shooting a second music video. I believe it will turn out with a slightly different perspective from [ Fatal Movement ], which we have already released.

M.S: The MFVF gathers bands from very different countries together, which ones would you recommend from your own country?
(Ippei) Stabat Mater, Sincerity Green,The Grail Of Sics, and Darkness Rose, etc. They are all bands with extensive potential.
