M.S:Hello, thank you for answering our questions it’s a pleasure. How are you?

Pleasure to meet you too! I’m doing very well thank you. Just staying indoors and trying to keep as busy as possible, but most musicians are used to being isolated, so it’s ok!

M.S: Next month you will release your new album “Virus” , we don’t know if it’s conditioned by the time we are living… what can we find inside this “Virus”? Is it a conceptual album?

We actually had the title a couple of years ago and this album works as the 2nd part of a musical and narrative arc we started on the previous album ‘Vector’. If you’re not familiar with that one, it’s theme is dark and psychological, but this one is more biological and the Virus is really a metaphor for the negative tropes in different areas of life, be they personal relationships, environmental or political. Of course we could have no idea that we’d be talking about this amidst a real life pandemic!

M.S: One of your songs is “Messiah Complex” suite, divided into 5 parts, how has it’s composition been?

We started with a 2 minute instrumental section we liked, but couldn’t find a place for it on Vector. It just started to develop it and it kept expanding and expanding. Sometimes a song feels done after four minutes and other times it needs 17 minutes! We try not to focus on that when we’re writing and instead follow the music where it needs to go. We presented it like that because the song naturally formed in a more linear way with 5 distinct movements, which is a bit of a different approach for us.

M.S: Why did you choose Canary Yellow as a single? Tell us a bit about the song …

It’s fun to surprise people and after releasing ‘Prosthetic’, which is all riffs and heaviness, we felt it’d be interesting to have the next song be the polar opposite. Prosthetic shows our love for metal, but Canary Yellow brings our Radiohead and Elbow influence to light. We’re very lucky to have fans who don’t pigeon hole us into one specific sound, so it’s a privilege to be able to can express ourselves freely. I’d like to let people know that the animation we had made for this song absolutely amazing, so please check it out on Youtube!

M.S: What differences do you see with your previous releases?

Every album is a learning experience I feel. We take the things that worked previously and try to reimagine them, as well as try to find some new ground. The production is really great on this one and it feels like our most cohesive work to date. At the end of the day we’re simply trying to write cool songs and hope people enjoy them.

M.S: What promotion will you make of the album? Any streaming concert maybe?

We have one more single release, then the album is out on June 5th, so we’re really looking forward to everybody hearing it. We put a lot of blood sweat and tears into this music! A streaming concert would be interesting for sure, but for that we obviously all need to be in the same place to do that, so it’d take some organising. We really wasn’t to do as much as we can for the fans because of the support they’ve given us over the years.

M.S: At least you have already done sold out of masks, a way to get income, since the concerts do not know when they can be done again, right

We sold some masks correct! Again our fans have been incredibly generous toward us at this difficult time and it’s hard all round, for everybody. Hopefully it will be safe to play again in the foreseeable future as that’s where we make our living.

M.S: We understand that the concerts you had confirmed have been postponed until later, right? Still do you intend to schedule a tour to play this “Virus»?

You’re absolutely right. We were in the middle of the Devin Townsend US tour and we were having a great time. We were in Nashville expecting to play a show that night, but instead we ended up booking flights to get home before everything went to lockdown. We plan on touring the Virus material as soon as it’s safe!

M.S:Thank you for your time, it has been a pleasure to have you here, we wish you good luck with your album and we hope to see you soon on stage

Thank you for your time too, it’s nice to talk about our music, but yes there’s no substitute for playing live and sharing that experience with the fans!
