M.S: Hola Laura. Para nosotros es un placer tenerte en Metal Symphony. ¿Cómo estás?
Hola Metal Symphony, estoy muy bien, gracias. Acabamos de grabar nuestro primer álbum y me estoy preparando para nuestros próximos conciertos justamente ahora.
M.S.: Para esos lectores que no te conocen, ¿podrías presentarte? ¿Qué estilo de música tocas, de dónde eres…?
Soy Laura Cox, una guitarrista francesa que principalmente toca rock sureño y rock clásico. He comenzado mi carrera musical en Youtube y ahora tengo mi propia banda, The Laura Cox Band. Llevo tocando aproximadamente 12 años y sigo siendo una apasionada de la guitarra.
Siempre quiero aprender cosas nuevas .. Escucho todo tipo de música entre Country y Hard Rock.
M.S.: Eres de las personas que han usado Youtube como trampolín y para trabajar en conseguir una reputación y grupo de fans. ¿Estoy en lo correcto si pienso que grabar covers ha sido tu escenario principal para que la gente te conozca?
Cuando incluía mis covers en Youtube, no pensaba tener tanto éxito. Tuve la oportunidad de ser una de las primeras chicas que subía covers con guitarra eléctrica en Youtube, y pienso que por eso funcionó tan bien.
Realmente me siento afortunada por eso.
Ya no subo tantos covers como antes, ahora intento desarrollar mi propio proyecto con mi banda, pero aún espero encontrar el equilibrio entre covers, canciones originales y demos en mi canal de Youtube.

M.S.: ¿Te ha contactado alguna marca después de ver tu impacto en Youtube?
Sí, eso ocurre a veces.
Para ser honesta, soy yo misma quien ha contactado con las marcas con las que trabajo ahora. Guitarras Bacchus, amplificadores Orange, pastillas Lollar, cuerdas Ernie Ball, púas Dava… estoy realmente contenta de formar parte de su equipo.
Ahora mismo, Bacchus me está construyendo una nueva ‘signature guitar’. Estoy tan orgullosa, hacen instrumentos excelentes, 100% a mano y en Japón.
M.S.: ¿En qué momento viste que hacer covers ya no te aportaba tanto y sentiste que tenías que escribir tu propio material?
En realidad, me ha costado mucho tiempo darme cuenta de que tenía que hacer mi propia música. Pasé años aprendiendo mis solos favoritos y no sentía que necesitase hacer algo más.
Luego, me encontré con Mathieu (quien toca en mi banda) y me convenció para escribir algunas canciones. Eso fue hace 4 años.
M.S.: ¿Tienes algunos lanzamientos en el mercado? ¿Dónde se pueden conseguir? Si no tienes, tienes planes para lanzar algo en el futuro?

Nuestro primer álbum, “Hard Blues Shot” se lanzará por febrero, y desde luego se podrá encontrar también en internet. ¡No puedo esperar para compartirlo con vosotros!
M.S.: ¿Crees que hay una especie de resurgimiento de músicos que tocan estilos clásicos como el blues rock o rock sureño? Artistas como Ana Popovic, Blues Pills, Ben Poole, Johanne Shaw Taylor o como el siempre activo Joe Bonamassa están llevando estos estilos allá por dónde pueden..
Sí, descubrí grandes bandas nuevas en los últimos años, y eso nos motiva también. Grupos como Blues Pills, Rival Sons, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Blackberry Smoke, Black Stone Cherry, Halestorm…, les adoro. Confirman que Rock’n Roll sigue en pie y nos da esperanza para el futuro de la industria musical.
M.S.: ¿Qué podremos ver en tus conciertos ahora en diciembre? ¿Va a haber más en el futuro?
Estamos remodelando nuestros shows por completo. Será un concierto de rock clásico con nuestro toque personal, no digo más. ¡Ven a vernos!
Por el momento, sólo tenemos 3 conciertos en España, pero si algunos fans están esperando para vernos allí, seguro que volveremos. ¿Quizás el próximo año?
M.S.: Una vez hechos estos shows en España, ¿qué planes tiene la banda?
Primero, nos espera el lanzamiento de nuestro disco, que será un paso gigante para nosotros.
Después seguiremos escribiendo canciones para otro disco y ahora que trabajamos con una empresa que organiza giras, tendremos muchos conciertos por Francia. Te puedo contar que también pararemos en Italia en unos meses.
No vemos el momento de encontrarnos con la gente allí. ¡Será nuestra primera vez en este país!

M.S: Hi Laura. It’s a pleasure for us to have you on Metal Symphony. How are you?
Hi Metal Symphony, I’m great, thank you! We’ve just finished recording our first album, and I’m getting ready for our next shows right now!
M.S: For those readers that do not know you, could you introduce yourself? What style of music you play, where do you come from…?
I’m Laura Cox, a french guitarist who mostly plays southern rock and classic rock. I started my career on Youtube and I have my own band now, The Laura Cox Band. I’ve been playing for about 12 years now, and I’m still really passionnate about guitar.
I always want to learn new stuff… I listen to everything between Country and Hard Rock!
M.S: You are one of those people that used Youtube to have a breakthrough, and work on a reputation and a fan base. Am I right assuming that the fact of recording covers has been the main stage for people to know you, right?
When I started uploading covers on Youtube, I didn’t think I would have so much success! I had the chance to be one of the very first girls to upload electric guitar covers on Youtube, and I think that’s why it worked so well.
I feel really lucky about it.
I don’t upload as many covers as before, because I’m trying to develop my own project with my band, but I still want to find a balance between covers, original songs and demo videos on my Youtube channel.
Be patient, more videos are on the way!
M.S: Has any brand of any kind contacted you after seeing your impact on Youtube?
Yes, it’s happening from times to times!
To be honest, I’m the one who contacted the brands I’m working with right now. Bacchus guitars, Orange Amplifiers, Lollar Pickups, Ernie Ball Strings, Dava Picks… I’m really happy to be part of their team!
Bacchus is currently building me a new signature guitar. I’m so proud about it, they make excellent instruments, 100% handmade in Japan.
M.S: At what point did you see that making covers did not cut it for you anymore and felt you had to write your own material?
Actually, it took me a lot of time to realize that I should be playing my own music! I spent years learning my favorite solos and I didn’t feel the need to do more!
Then, I met Mathieu (who’s in the band), and he convinced me to write some songs. That was 4 years ago!
M.S: Do you have any releases on the market? Where can someone get them? If not, do you have plans to have a release in the future?

Yes, I discovered great new bands these past years, and that’s motivating for us too! Bands like Blues Pills, Rival Sons, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Blackberry Smoke, Black Stone Cherry, Halestorm… I love them, They prove us that Rock ‘n’ Roll still exists and it gives us hope for the future of music industry.
M.S: What will we be able to see in your shows next december? Will there be more shows in the future?
We’re totally remodelling our shows… It will be a classic rock show with our personal touch, I won’t say more. Come to the shows!
For now, we only have 3 shows scheduled in Spain, but if some fans are waiting for us there, we will be back for sure. Maybe next year?
M.S: Once the three shows in Spain are done, what is in store for the band?
First, there will be the release of our album, which is a huge step for us. Then we will continue to write some material for another album, and now that we work with a touring company, we are going to tour a lot within France. I can tell you we will stop by Italy in a few months!
We can’t wait to meet people there! That will be our first time in this country.
