Mark: Hemos tocado algunos temas nuevos que no hemos estado tocando antes, como «Fight your Demons» y «The Holographic Principle».

Me parece bien.

Mark: Os quiero 🙂 ¡Nos vemos pronto!

ENGLISH VERSION

M.S: Hello everyone, thanks for attending Metal Symphony. It’s a pleasure to have you here, How are you?

Mark: I’m fine thank you

M.S: You are in the middle of the tour of your latest work ‘Holographic Principle’. How is it going?

Mark: It’s going well, we are on tour with two very cool bands Myrath and Vuur. The atmosphere is very good too.

M.S: What feedback are you receiving from the new songs played live?

Mark: We have played some new tracks that we haven’t been playing before like «Fight Your Demons» and «The Holographic Principle». The reactions have been very good.

MS: Talking about new songs, maybe you are in one of the best creative moments for the group, at least on a compositional level, because after this ‘Holographic Principle’, you have released «The Solace System». Why does this EP come out after the album? … Do they have any relationship or is it just stuff you wanted to release?

Mark: Those are all the songs that didn’t fitt on THP álbum. We had recorded them en mixed and mastered as well but we simply had too many songs. We thought they were too good to reléase as bonus tracks so we decided to keep them together and put them on an EP. We have worked also on another EP with Attack on Titan songs (a Japanese series) so a bit moviescore like.

M.S: After Ariën and Rob joined the group some years ago and after 15 years playing, how do you see the unity of the group today?

Mark: We have been around for many years now indeed, at this point already 16 even. It feels good to tour and work on music with these guys. We have basically achieved all our goals that we had set some years ago. Before we’ll start working on a next álbum we will take a Little time off as it have been very beautiful but also intense years. This will refresh our minds to start working on the new álbum.

M.S: You have already done part of the American tour with Lacuna Coil, How was the tour and the reunion with Cristina and her guys? … We suppose that the audience gave you a very good reception, You are really loved there …

Mark: It was fantastic, our best US tour ever. Definitely also because of LC. The crowd attendence was huge and everybody had a good time. LC are great guys.

M.S: In Spain you are also very loved, practically from your beginnings, and now you get here on tour with Myrath and Vuur, How do you get on with both bands?

Mark: Myrath played on our Epic Metal Fest, I was impressed by their performance and also the rest of the guys were so we asked them to join us on this tour. Vuur has recorded a great álbum and we got to hear it already months before it was released. We were very impressed by this álbum and these guys are friends of us so it’s an easy match ?

M.S: A few days ago you released the live video of «Consign to Oblivion» in Paris, Was there any special reason? Maybe because of the environment, because it is special for you, because you sold out …? It’s funny because in many indoor venues pyrotechnics is forbidden..

Mark: Our Management decided to reléase it to promote the current european tour, I’m fine with it. Pyro adds something special to a show but I am also happy when we do a normal show where the audience can be closer to the stage.

M.S: It’s been two years since the Female Voices Fest has been held in Wieze (Belgium), where you were headliners almost every year. It was, without a doubt, a pioneering event that managed to be consolidated and helped many groups to go on stage in a festival … Do you miss it? Would you like it to come back?

Mark: It was a great fest, especially when it was on its peak. I know the founders very well, they are friends of mine. Of course it’s a pity that it didn’t survive but they made a good decisión to stop in time instead of losing even more money. It was hard to get bands like WT, Nightwish and Evanescence. Every year Epica is nice for a while but not forever. Hopefully the fest will make a come back after some year though.

M.S: What awaits you after the tour? And what projects do you have for 2018? Any advance that can be confessed…

Mark: I’m working hard on the next MaYaN álbum, my other band. We want to try everything we can to make this 3rd álbum a big step forward. We work with the producer of Epica (Joost van den Broek) in the same way now as Epica has recorded the last two albums. We have worked extremely hard on the new songs and it’s gonna be a hell of a job to chose the tracks for the álbum. With Epica we will keep touring until August. And the EP with songs from Attack on Titan will be released in december in Japan and later on in the rest of the world.

M.S: Up to here our questions. If you want to tell your Spanish fans anything else, this is your moment. Thank you very much for your time and we will see you in a few days in Spain. Good luck!

Mark: I love you all 🙂 see you soon!
