Entrevistamos a Espen, guitarrista de los noruegos Pristine con motivo de la gira que comienzan esta semana por España presentando su último "Ninja"… Esto es lo que nos cuenta sobre el lanzamiento, el momento actual de la banda y muchas otras cosas más… esto es lo que nos cuenta…

MS: Hola a todos, gracias por atender a nuestra página …. Qué tal estáis?
Espen: Estoy bien, gracias. Ahora mismo nos dirigimos a Helmond en Holanda para hacer un show allí. Mañana estaremos camino a España. ¡Buenos tiempos!
MS: Siendo sinceros, muchos os descubrimos en la gira que hicisteis con Blues Pills y nos deslumbrasteis. No sabíamos de vosotros y resulta que ya lleváis más de 10 años como banda… tras todo este tiempo, cómo ha sido vuestro camino y cómo os veis a día de hoy como grupo?
Espen: Sí, Pristine lleva funcionando desde hace 12 años y llevamos trabajando duro para estar donde estamos hoy, y continuaremos este trabajo en los próximos años.
Solo somos un grupo de buenos amigos que comparten el amor por la música y les encanta estar de gira tocando para nuestros fans.
MS: La cantera musical escandinava es rica y tenemos infinitas bandas entre nuestros preferencias. En una tierra como Noruega donde el metal extremo quizá es referente en el panorama, os encontramos a vosotros con influencias de rock clásico y psicodélico… A día de hoy tenéis algún tipo de influencia musical o buscáis más profundizar en vuestro propio sonido?
Espen: Contra las reglas tenemos nuestras influencias musicales como todos los demás, Zeppelin, Purple, Hendrix … etc. Pero también tenemos otras influencias, al menos yo sí. King Crimson, The Who, Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Free, Grand Funk Railroad y en los últimos años Rival Sons se ha convertido en uno de mis favoritos. Escuchamos mucha música diferente todo el tiempo, solo mira nuestra canción The Rebel Song de Ninja, ese es mi pequeño homenaje al gran Jaco Pastorius. Una parte del riff de guitarra es una versión con trastes de la intro de la canción Portrait of Tracy.
MS: Este “Ninja” sale un año después de vuestro “Reboot”. Significa eso un reinicio y activación de la banda?
Espen: Cada nuevo álbum es como un nuevo comienzo, nuevo material, nuevas canciones para salir de gira. Me encanta el momento después de que sale un nuevo álbum, ver la reacción de los fans y la gente que viene a los conciertos.
También hemos estado haciendo algunos cambios en la formación de después de que salió Reboot. Ahora tenemos a Gustav "Prøttis" Eidsvik en el bajo y Ottar "Bob" Tøllefsen en la batería, son los nuevos miembros de la banda a tiempo completo.
MS: Como decíamos antes, lo vemos como una mezcla entre sonidos clásicos y psicodélicos pero algo más accesibles para más tipos de público, puede ser? Cómo lo veis vosotros? Os decantáis por alguno de esos sonidos más que por el otro?
Espen: Creo que lo vemos como lo veis si estuviéramos para colocar las clavijas a algunas cajas de música para poner a Pristine.
Definitivamente hemos puesto más y más partes psicodélicas en nuestra música y creo habrá más de eso en el próximo álbum también. Cuando hacemos música no pensamos en este tipo de cosas, solo hacemos la música que queremos escuchar nosotros mismos. Si nos gusta, hay una buena posibilidad de que haya alguien más a quien también le guste.
MS: “The Perfect Crime” es un tema de banda sonora, emotivo, profundo, elegante, potente y se nos acaban los adjetivos porque nos encanta… como surgió la idea de este tema?
Espen: La idea de esta canción surgió cuando estábamos en el estudio grabando el álbum Ninja. Nuestro bajista repentinamente tuvo que abandonar el estudio e irse a casa en mitad de la grabación del álbum y nos quedamos bloqueados sin bajista. ¡Fue el crimen perfecto! Pero todo salió muy bien al final y conseguimos una canción realmente buena de todo esto … jeje …
MS: Nos quedamos con muchas ganas de más después de veros y además se nos ha hecho largo porque habéis tardado en venir. Qué veremos encima del escenario esta vez, esperamos que la misma magia que la primera pero, alguna sorpresa respecto a la anterior?
Espen: Veréis una banda con mucha energía, un nuevo setlist y escucharéis tres canciones totalmente nuevas de nuestro próximo álbum para principios de 2019. Constantemente estamos escribiendo material nuevo y nunca dejamos de trabajar para dar lo mejor de nosotros mismos en todos y cada uno de los conciertos que hacemos. También tenemos a nuestro hombre de iluminación con nosotros, Torbjørn "Medicine Man" Sandnes, que aporta una dimensión extra a nuestra música. Y por supuesto tenemos a nuestro brillante hombre de sonido, Tor "tømmis" Tømmervik, con nosotros como siempre.
MS: Estáis en medio de la gira de este Ninja, una vez finalizada cuales son vuestros próximos planes?
Espen: Bueno, justo después de esta gira comenzaremos la preproducción para nuestro próximo álbum. Hemos encontrado un nuevo productor y un hombre nuevo para mezclar el nuevo álbum, algo por lo que realmente estamos emocionados.
MS: Muchas gracias por vuestro tiempo y como os decimos ya tenemos muchas ganas de veros, que os vaya bien la gira y nos vemos pronto.

MS: Hello everyone, thank you for answering our questions … How are you?
Espen: I’m fine thank you. Right now we’re on our way to Helmond in Holland to do a show there. Tomorrow we’re on our way to Spain. Good times!
MS: Being honest, you were discovered for many of us in the tour you did with Blues Pills and you dazzled us. We did not know you and it turns out that you have been a band for over 10 years … After all this time, how has your journey been and how do you see yourselves as a group today?
Espen: Yes, Pristine has been going on for 12 years now and we’ve been working hard and targeted to be were we are today, and we’ll continue this work for years to come.
We’re just a group of good friends that share the love for music and love to be on the road playing for our fans.
MS: The Scandinavian musical talent pool is rich and we have lots and lots of bands among our preferences. In a land like Norway where the extreme metal is perhaps a reference in this scene, we find you with influences of classic and psychedelic rock … Do you have any kind of musical influence or do you seek to explore in more detail your own sound?
Espen: We defiantly have our musical influences like every one else Zeppelin, Purple, Hendrix…etc. But we also have other influences, at least I do. King Crimson, The Who, Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Free, Grand Funk Railroad and in the later years Rival Sons has become a favorite of mine. We listen to a lot of different music all the time, just look at our song The Rebel Song from Ninja, thats my litte homage to the great Jaco Pastorius. One part of the guitar riff is a fretted version of the intro of the song Portrait of Tracy.
MS: This "Ninja" is released a year after "Reboot". Does that mean a restart and activation of the band?
Espen: Every new album Is like a new fresh start, new material, new songs to go on tour with. I love the time after a new album is out, see the reaction of the fans and the people who comes to the concerts.
We have also been doing some changes in the lineup of after Reboot came out. We now have Gustav "Prøttis" Eidsvik on bass and Ottar "Bob" Tøllefsen on the drums, they are the new full-time members of the band.
MS: As we said before, we see it as a mix between classic and psychedelic sounds but something more accessible to more types of audience. How do you see it? Do you prefer one of those sounds to the other?
Espen: I think we see it as you see it if we were to pin out som musical boxes to put Pristine in.
We have defiantly put more and more of the psychedelic parts in our music and I think it will be more of that in the upcoming album as well. When we’re making the music we don’t think about this kind of stuff, we just make the music we wanna listen to ourselves. If we like it there is a good chance that there is someone else who will like it too.
MS: "The Perfect Crime" is a theme for a soundtrack, emotional, deep, elegant, powerful and we run out of adjectives because we love it … How did the idea of ??this song come up?
Espen: The idea for this song came along when we were in the studio recording the ninja album. Our bassplayer suddenly had to leave the studio and go home in the middel of the recording of the album and we were stuck with no bassplayer. It was The Perfect Crime! But everything turned out great in the end and we got a really good song out of it..hehe…
MS: We can´t wait to see you again because it took us ages to see you for the first time. What will we see on stage this time? We are expecting the same magic as with the first one but, any surprise compared to the previous one?
Espen: you’ll see a band with great energy, a new setlist and you’ll get to hear tree completely new songs for our upcoming album in early 2019. We’re constantly writing new material and newer stop working to bring our best to each and every concert we do. We also have our lightning guy with us, Torbjørn "Medicine Man" Sandnes, that brings out an extra dimension to our music. And of cours we have our brilliant soundguy, Tor "tømmis" Tømmervik, with us as always.
MS: You are you in the middle of this Ninja tour. Once finished, what are your next plans?
Espen: well, right after this tour we’ll be starting the preproduction for our next album. We have found a new producer and a new guy to mix the new album, something we are really exited about.
