Tras 25 años de carrera, los italianos DGM siguen sacando grandes discos como su último Tragic Separation, hablamos con Andrea, bajista del grupo, para que nos cuente todo lo relacionado con el lanzamiento y mucho más.

M.S: Hola, gracias por responder a nuestras preguntas, es un placer teneros por aquí. ¿Cómo estáis?
Hola M.S. muchas gracias por la entrevista, estamos felices y listos para responderos. Estamos muy bien, este período es un poco frustrante debido a la pandemia del covid, pero afortunadamente todos estamos bien. Realmente esperamos que vosotros y los vuestros estéis bien de salud.
M.S: Habéis cumplido ya 25 años como banda, ¿Cómo es la unión del grupo a día de hoy?
Bueno, podemos considerar sin duda a DGM como una familia. La formación actual se construyó en 2006/2007, desde ese momento crecimos juntos primero como amigos y luego como músicos, incluso si vivimos en diferentes ciudades de Italia, siempre estamos en contacto, no solo relacionado con la música pero más a menudo para charlar… Entonces, respondiendo a su pregunta, podemos decir que la unión en la banda hoy en día es muy fuerte y sólida.
M.S: Sobre vuestra evolución musical, ¿estáis contento con lo conseguido a lo largo de los años?
¡¡¡Absolutamente sí!!! DGM pasó por muchos cambios de formación diferentes, estos cambios trajeron algunas nuevas influencias.
Si echamos un vistazo a las influencias de las que proviene la banda, podemos afirmar fácilmente que la banda comenzó como una banda de puro metal progresivo para alcanzar en el 4º 5º álbum un enfoque más hard rock en la composición.
El mayor cambio se produjo en 2006/2007 cuando Simone, Emanuele y Mark se unieron a la banda. La banda ganó un sonido más fresco debido al gusto musical de Simone y Emanuele en un lado y un tono de blues gracias a Mark Voice.
La mezcla de ambos elementos dio origen a lo que hoy en día DGM no es solo una banda de power metal o progresivo, sino una banda con una personalidad fuerte, potente, progresiva y pegadiza a la vez.
M.S: Después de 25 años, ¿qué sientes cuando entras en un estudio de grabación? ¿Cómo fue la grabación de este Tragic Separation?
La grabación de Tragic Separation, como los últimos 5 discos, es siempre un gran momento para mirar juntos la evolución de un nuevo abum. Debido a la distancia entre nosotros tenemos que dividir las sesiones de grabación de los instrumentos pero antes de las grabaciones nos reuníamos a menudo para definir todas las canciones entre una copa de vino y una barbacoa 🙂
M.S: ¿Cada uno de ustedes lo hizo en casa o podrían encontrarse en el estudio de grabación?
Simone tiene su propio estudio (Domination Studios), hoy en día confirmado como uno de los mejores de Italia para nuestro tipo de música.
Solíamos grabar todo allí, incluso porque Simone se encarga de toda la producción desde la composición, pasando por las sesiones de grabación hasta el proceso de mezcla y masterización.
M.S: Es una portada muy enigmática, ¿qué nos queréis decir?
Simone Bertozzi, un amigo cercano nuestra y la artista que también hizo la portada de Momentum, hizo esta increíble obra de arte. Tradujo asombrosamente el concepto detrás del álbum que sugirió Fabio (batería). El registro habla de un camino de vida que, como era de esperar, comienza con un nacimiento (las dos manos pueden representar este momento … la creación de la vida).
Metafóricamente este nacimiento es también el comienzo de una búsqueda, no necesariamente consciente, de un propósito. La necesidad casi obsesiva de encontrar respuestas lleva al protagonista a tomar decisiones. A veces indispensable, a veces forzado, a veces sufrido. Nunca tiene la percepción ni la conciencia de que ha «llegado» y, incluso donde pudo percibir una apariencia de catarsis (en el amor, el trabajo o espiritual), sin embargo, nunca logró desprenderse de esa anhelante necesidad de llenar un vacío. .
Si la elección se considera una encrucijada en una carretera, por lo tanto una separación, en una visión teatral es intrínsecamente trágica (ver tema principal). El camino está plagado de dudas e indecisiones. No sabe si la elección es correcta si no conoce la alternativa. Podría tener razón si llevara a la tranquilidad, una especie de paz interior pero esto, el protagonista no lo sabe. Solo puede intentar imaginar, en un hipotético balance final, que al menos lo ha intentado.
La alternativa hubiera sido no buscar esa respuesta tan necesaria y, en cierto sentido, no haber vivido en términos absolutos.
Entre las miles de dudas y segundas reflexiones que han traído las decisiones tomadas, una pregunta resuena en el alma del protagonista: ¿Y si la respuesta a todo fuera el camino mismo?
Una pregunta sin respuesta es, por tanto, el punto de partida para una nueva búsqueda … otro comienzo.
De ahí la conclusión «circular» del viaje.
M.S: En 2019 lanzaron una serie de sus álbumes remasterizados, ¿cuál fue el motivo? ¿Ya no estaban disponibles? ¿Qué podemos encontrar allí que no estuviera en los originales?
Simplemente recuperamos nuestros derechos musicales del sello anterior y los remasterizamos y volvimos a publicar en todas las plataformas digitales, para que estén disponibles. No hay pistas nuevas ni caras B, puedes encontrar algunas pistas extra ya lanzadas para el mercado japonés, pero básicamente hay una remasterización de las canciones.
M.S: ¿Qué promoción haréis del álbum? ¿Algún concierto de streaming tal vez?
Bueno, íbamos a planificar una gira para 2021, pero como seguramente sabes que no es posible en este momento, un concierto en streaming podría ser una buena solución, pero está un poco lejos de nuestras personalidades, DGM es 100% una banda en vivo y esto es nuevo no es algo espontáneo… pero ya veremos, seguramente tenemos que enfrentarnos a una nueva realidad hoy en día, así que trabajaremos en algo para promocionar el álbum de la mejor manera.

Hi M.S. thank’s a ot for the interview, we’re happy and ready to answers you. We’re great, even if this period is a bit frustrating due the cvid pandemy but luckily everyone of us is in health. We really hope you and your dears are in health to.
M.S: You have been a band for 25 years, How is the union of the group today?
Well, we can consider with no doubt DGM as a family. The current line-up was build in 2006/2007, since that moment on we grew together first of all as friends and then as musicians, even if we live in different cities through Italy, we’re always in touch, not only whne it comes to music business but more often for friendly talks. So answering your question we can say the union in the band nowadays is very strong and solid
M.S: About your musical evolution, are you happy with what has been achieved over the years?
Absolutely Yes!!! DGM passed through many different line up changes, these changes was brought some new influences.
If we have a look at what kind of influences the band come from we can easiy affirm that the band started as a pure metal progressive band to reach in the 4th 5th album a more hard rock approach to the songwriting.
The biggest change come in 2006/2007 when Simone, Emanuele and Mark joined the band. The band gained a more fresh sound due Simone and Emanuele ‘s musical taste on a side and a bluesy shade thanks to mark voice.
The mix of both elements gave birth to what DGM are nowadays not ony a progressive or power metal band but a band with a strong personality, powerfull, progressive and catchy at the same time.
M.S: After 25 years, what do you feel when you enter a record studio? How was the recording of this Tragic Separation?
The recording of Tragic Separation, like the last 5 records, is always a great time spent togheter looking at the evolution of a new abum. Due the distance between us we have to split the recording sessions of the isntruments but before the recordings we met often to defined all the songs between a glass of wine and a bbq 🙂
M.S: Did each of you do it at home or could you meet in the recording studio?
Simone has his own studio (Domination Studios), nowadays affirmed as one of the best in Italy for our kind of music.
We use to record everything in there even because Simone take care of all the production from the writing process, passing through the recording sessions untill the mixing and mastering process.
M.S: It’s a very enigmatic cover, what do you mean?
Simone Bertozzi, a close friends of ours and the artist who also made the cover for moment album, realized this amazing piece of art. He stunningly translated the concept behind the album conceived by Fabio (drummer). The record talks about a life path that, not surprisingly, begins with a birth (the two hands can represent this moment…the creation of life).
Metaphorically this birth is also the beginning of a search, not necessarily conscious, of a purpose. The almost obsessive need to find answers leads the protagonist to make choices. Sometimes indispensable, sometimes forced, sometimes suffered. He never has the perception or the consciousness that he has «arrived» and, even where he could perceive a semblance of catharsis (in love, work or spiritual), however, he never managed to detach himself from that yearning need to fill a void.
If the choice is considered a crossroad on a road, therefore a separation, in a theatrical vision it is intrinsically tragic (see title track). The path is studded with doubts and indecisions. You don’t know if the choice is right if you don’t know the alternative. It could be right if it led to tranquility, a sort of inner peace but this, the protagonist does not know. He can only try to imagine, in a hypothetical final balance, that he has at least tried it.
The alternative would have been not to seek that much-needed answer and, in a sense, not to have lived in absolute terms.
Among the thousands of doubts and second thoughts that the choices made have brought, a question echoes in the soul of the protagonist: What if the answer to everything was the path itself?
An unanswered question is therefore the starting point for a new search… another beginning.
Hence the «circular» conclusion of the journey.
M.S: In 2019 you released a series of your remastered albums, what was the reason? Were they no longer available? What can we find there that were not in the originals?
We simply took our musical rights back from the previous label and remastered and repubished on every digital platform, so they are available. There are no new track or b-sides, you can find some bonus track aready released for the japanese market but basically there’s a remaster of the songs.
M.S: What promotion will you make of the album? Any streaming concert maybe?
Well we were going to plan a tour for 2021 but as you surely know it’s not possibe at the moment, a streaming concert coud be a good solution but it’s a bit far from our personaities, DGM is 100% a live band and this new » role ”is not really spontanerus for us … but we’ll see, we surely has to face a new reality nowadays so we’ll work on something to promote the album at our best.
