Interview with Marcela Bovio

M.S: Hello Marcela. It’s nice to see you again here in Metal Symphony, how
do you do?

Marcela Bovio: I’m fine, thanks!

M.S: First of all, please let ask you something that I forgot last time…
We can see in your myspace that you work on software development, how is it
possible that between many code lines and files, you decide to sing in Elfonía
and Stream of Passion?

M.B: I don’t know. In the music is very difficult to be known, and living
through the music is even more difficult. But I feel very lucky of having studies
and a job which give me balance in my life and the opportunity of trying it.

M.S: Coming back to your last album with Stream of Passion, the CD/DVD titled
«Live in the Real World»… Besides of your beauty in it, one of the important
points in the DVD is the sound and the quality of the video during the record,
are you satisfied with the result of it? Were you nervous recording the whole
concert during just one night?

M.B: Yes, I was very nervous. Before going to the stage, the only thing
I could think about was that any detail that I wouldn’t like from my performance
was going to be in the CD. But after the beginning of the concert, I forgot
everything and I tried to have as much fun as I could; I felt happy of the concert,
but I will never feel completely happy of my performance at 100% because I’m
a perfectionist.

M.S: At the beginning of this year you announce the second part of your
European tour presenting «Embrace the Storm»…. What brings you on tour again
in Europe? Visiting again the countries where you performed or strengthening
you as a band?

M.B: Both things. We had the chance of making a new tour, and we did it.
We enjoyed this opportunity because we joined again at the stage.

M.S: I saw some set-lists of your second tour, and I saw that you had removed
«Nostalgia» from the set-list. Don’t you consider it an important song for Stream
of Passion?

M.B: Of course. I love this song. But we wanted to vary the set-list because
of the fans that went to our previous concerts and go again on this last tour.
We included a slow and soft version of «Open Your Eyes» in the set-list, and
we decided to remove «Nostalgia» in order to not make the concert slow and soft
twice with these songs.

M.S: I suppose that it was nice to meet again your partners of Stream of
Passion to play again in new gigs. How did you feel about your music after the
whole summer without having practised?

M.B: I think that we even felt better. Each time that we meet, we feel safer
at the stage.

M.S: This time, did you all go to Holland to practise the songs of the concerts?
Didn’t you think about any new song for a new record?

M.B: No, we only concentrated in practising for the concerts because we
hadn’t got much time.

M.S: I suppose that all your gigs were great, but, do you remember any special
gig of your last mini-tour?

M.B: Finland was a great surprise. The sales of the album there wasn’t very
high, so we didn’t expect a high support, but surprisingly for us the place
was crowded and the audience was always cheering. (it was great)

M.S: Looking at the songs that you perform with your sister Diana are very
nice, haven’t you thought about that she sings officially in your next records?
Or, does she want to concentrate in her career as a dancer?

M.B: Yes, she is concentrated in her career at the theatre. That’s her truly
passion and what she is fighting for.

M.S: But something was wrong… When you were going to England, Alejandro,
Diana and you were stopped because you all were thought to live there illegally…
I suppose that you thought that they were kidding you, right? What were you
thinking about in that moment?

M.B: Well, since we had those troubles I thought that we weren’t allowed
to go to England. Since the beginning the Policemen were safe of their decision,
and in those situations, it’s difficult they change their minds. It was a pity,
the last gigs of our tour were cancelled and we feel very sad of it; we enjoy
so much at the concerts that we felt very sad when we finally saw that it would
be impossible to go to England.

M.S: Have thought about coming back to perform in Sheffield and London (where
you weren’t allowed to play)?

M.B: Not yet. But you never know for sure, the opportunity can present itself
in any moment.

M.S: Would it be just one gig? Or, could you play in more countries? Then
you could have the chance of coming again to Spain.

M.B: It would be wonderful. We had so fn in Spain… And we, the Mexicans,
could connect much better with the audience because of the language.

M.S: Was your note announcing that Elfonía would stop by indefinite time
a polite way to say that you are going to continue with Stream of Passion?

M.B: Not exactly, because we all have different ambitions that we want to
get at this moment. Alejandro is recording a new album as a soloist, and I have
new projects, like Javier and Pablo.

M.S: I’m sure that you have already spoken about this in this last tour…Could
you tell us if there will be a second album of Stream of Passion?

M.B: Not yet. But we will think it in the next months. (So I will stay you
tuned)

M.S: Now that you have performed songs of both Stream of Passion and Elfonía
for long enough, which songs are more difficult to be performed? The stream
of passion’s songs, or Elfonía’s ones because of their high-pitched and long
tones?

M.B: Both bands have their difficulty. The melody of Elfonía’s songs is
more complex, but generally the sound of the band live is much more soft than
Stream of Passion’s. With SoP the sound at the stage is always very high, and
it is required much concentration if you want to offer a great performance in
those conditions and survive an hour and a half of concert.

M.S: If we go to your myspace, we can read that you had to do a journey
of more than 7 hours and a half to see Muse perform at Houston. Are you on favour
of these new lines of Rock/Metal?

M.B: There are many bands that I find very boring in this line of new «classic
rock», but there are some other bands that surprised me. For me, Muse was something
incredible, I love their melodies, their riffs…I think that they are the prove
of that when you write music with high quality, it can expand to other genres
with success.

M.S: Do you know if this summer you will be at any European festival?

M.B: No, but if I’m told where, I’ll be there : -)

M.S: You were in a tribute to «The Gathering» thay you did in Mexico last
December… How was the experience? Then we could say that «The Gathering» is
one of your influences when you perform, right?

M.B: Yes, when I began to listen to metal and heavy rock, I was caused much
impact by Anneke’s work. I had fun in the tribute, it was organised by a good
friend of mine which invited me to participate in it. The environment was great
and quite relaxed, everyone had very fun.

M.S: What are your future plans at this moment, Marcela?

M.B: I’m trying to fulfil my unsatisfied wish of recording an album as a
soloist. Let’s see if now that I have more pleasure time I work on it.

M.S: Well, this is the end of the interview, if you want to tell something
to our readers and your fans, this is the moment. Thank you very much for your
time once again.

M.B: No David, thanks to you. It’s a pleasure to share this time with all
of you, best wishes and I wish we see again soon.
