Interview with Mercury X about «Imprisoned»

Frontiers Music continues betting on progressive metal, this time releasing «Imprisoned» by Mercury X. As we are interested in the genre and spread the different proposals, we spoke with the band so that they could introduce themselves to our readers and tell us about this new album. .

David Aresté

M.S: Thank you for your time, it is a pleasure to talk with you

Denis Diaz: The pleasure is on our side. Thank YOU.

M.S: «Imprisoned» came out a few weeks ago, what feedback do you get from the press and your fans?

DD: We’ve received a lot of nice feedback and reviews. It’s really humbling. I’d never thought that in a million years!

M.S: In case there is someone who does not know you yet, Where does the name of the band come from?

DD: In the beginning we had a band name meeting and had a few names to choose from. We simply had to vote. I don’t remember all the other alternatives, but I remember one: Norrtälje Metalorkester. Which translates to “Norrtälje Metal Orchestra”. It didn’t get any votes.

M.S: It is something natural that musicians are influenced by other musicians and take them as references. What are your main musical influences? What are your favorite bands?

DD: We get influenced by everything around us. But when it comes to musical influences we have to mention bands like Symphony X, Dream Theater, A.R.K, Circus Maximus and even bands like Foo Fighters and of course movies. And as of recent – my neighbor that was drilling a hole in the wall which I took inspiration from.

M.S: From your words, what can you bring to the prog metal scene that other groups have not done?

DD: I think we have a unique sound in our music. We have two lead singers, one high-pitched and one more mid-range with a bit of power. Not every prog metal band has their drummer as one of their lead singers.

M.S: What songs would you highlight from the album besides the singles?

DD: The light in your eyes really has its cool moments. And of course our epica, Imprisoned, which takes the listeners on a journey. We are currently editing a new music video for Until the break of day.

M.S: How does a prog metal band feel working with a label like Frontiers Music?

DD: We are truly blessed. They are so co-operative and helpful. We look forward to work with them for a long time.

M.S: Could it be that you continue to compose new material because it is still difficult to tour through Europe?

DD: Spot on!

M.S: Thank you for your time, it has been a pleasure to have you here, we wish you good luck with your album and we hope to see you soon on stage

DD: The pleasure is on our side! See ya!
