M.S: Hola, gracias por contestar nuestras preguntas. ¿Cómo estás?
Lady Godyva: Hola, gracias por esta entrevista. Es un placer contestar vuestras preguntas. Estoy bien y muy emocionada por el Metal Female Voices Festival.
M.S: Dado que aún no habéis tocado en España, ¿podríais presentaros vosotros mismos a nuestros lectores? Cuéntanos algo sobre cuándo y cómo se formó el grupo, la situación actual y vuestro nuevo trabajo…
L.G: Bueno, te juro que es una pena para nosotros no haber tocado nunca en España. Espero que eso pase pronto porque me gusta muchísimo ese país. Godyva se formó en el 2000 (al comienzo del nuevo milenio) cuando mis amigos y yo decidimos comenzar esta andadura por la música del metal gótico. Después de la realización de nuestra primera maqueta llamada Advent, una discográfica americana contactó con nosotros para proponernos un contrato, y en junio de 2006, nuestro primer disco In Good and Evil fue lanzado de la mano de Sorcery Studios Media Group/Razar Ice Records. Para la misma discográfica, dos años después, lanzamos nuestro segundo gran disco Planetarium, y de hecho, estamos trabajando en nuestro nuevo álbum que saldrá el próximo año. M.S: Si alguien quiere recopilar información sobre vosotros, ¿dónde podrían oíros o comprar vuestros discos?
L.G: Pueden escuchar algunas canciones de nuestros discos en nuestra página de Myspace o en nuestra página oficial www.godyva.it. Nuestros discos son distribuidos por Europa y Estados Unidos, por lo que es fácil encontrarlos en la red.
M.S: ¿Cómo se puso en contacto con vosotros la organización de MFVF? ¿Les mandásteis primero vuestro material? ¿U os llamaron? Estoy seguro/a de que estáis más que orgullosos por participar en este festival que se celebra cada año, ¿me equivoco?
L.G: Hace un año, les mandamos un paquete promocional preguntándoles si podríamos tocar en el Metal Female Voices Festival y, afortunadamente, la respuesta fue positiva. Así que nos ofrecieron una plaza para la 8ª Edición del MFVF, el sábado 23 de octubre, para tocar con grandes grupos del panorama internacional como Arch Enemy, Revamp y Tristania, con su nueva cantante italiana Mariangela (he escuchado algunas canciones de su nuevo disco y la verdad es que me ha gustado su nuevo sonido). Sí, estamos muy orgullosos de formar parte del MFVF este año, ¡es un gran evento!
M.S: Hoy en día, ¿diríais que tener mujeres en un grupo de metal os deja en un segundo puesto respecto al resto de grupos de la escena del metal? Quiero decir, en el resto de los festivales de metal nos podemos encontrar sólo 2 ó 3 mujeres al frente de grupos. ¿Consideráis que MFVF es una buena forma, para grupos como el vuestro, de tener la oportunidad de tocar en grandes escenarios?
L.G: Pienso que, hoy en día, los grupos liderados por mujeres están creciendo exponencialmente, pero no hay muchos grandes festivales para estos grupos. En Italia hay diferentes festivales, pero es muy difícil tomar parte en uno, porque o son para música extrema o tienes que pagar para tocar, y no estoy de acuerdo con esa política. Es un honor tener esta oportunidad de tocar en el MFVF porque creo que es el más grande y más conocido.
M.S: MFVF se caracteriza principalmente por contratar grupos de diferentes países para que vayan a tocar a Bélgica, ¿cómo es la escena del metal en vuestro país? ¿Recomendáis algunas bandas a nuestros lectores?
L.G: Sí, el MFVF reúne grupos de toda Europa con diferentes tradiciones y sonidos, idiomas e historias, pero con la misma pasión por la música. En Italia el escenario de la música es complicado, hay muchos buenos grupos, pero pocas discográficas que quieran invertir en su música, ya que nuestra economía nacional pasa por momentos difíciles ahora mismo. Recomiendo a vuestros lectores un grupo de nuestra misma ciudad, Natron (el ex-cantante Mike Tarantino es la voz masculina de nuestra canción Innocent), Methedras (he colaborado con ellos, cantando en su último disco Katarsis), Backjumper, Golem y muchos otros grandes grupos que merece la pena tener en cuenta.
M.S: Estaréis en la octava edición de MFVF, ¿qué grupos os gustaría ver?
L.G: Obviamente Arch Enemy, son un gran grupo y sus actuaciones en vivo son dignas de ver al menos una vez en la vida. Me gustaría ver a Tristania con su nueva alineación y como dije antes, me gusta su nuevo y moderno disco.
M.S: Con respecto a vuestra actuación, ¿qué se puede encontrar el público en el escenario?
L.G: Nuestra actuación durará treinta minutos en la mañana del 23 de octubre, así que de verdad, quiero dar toda nuestra energía y emociones a la gente que esté allí en ese momento. No suelo seguir un esquema para nuestra actuación, pero me gusta improvisar entre una canción y otra. Este el primer gran festival para nuestro nuevo y joven guitarrista Mori y está muy ilusionado. No llevamos escenografías o efectos especiales, solo llevamos nuestra música y nuestra personalidad.
M.S.: Supongo que estáis tocando canciones de vuestro último álbum “Planetarium”, ¿podríais contarnos algo sobre él?
L.G: Sí, la gran parte de las canciones que tocamos en directo, están sacadas del disco Planetarium. Este disco es más moderno que In Good and Evil, contiene canciones románticas y de rock alternativo, con algo diferente, ya que nuestro ex-guitarrista Anto solía tocar death metal o metal progresivo. De hecho, el sonido agresivo de las guitarras con los teclados creaba un sonido nuevo para nosotros. Esto es muy apreciado por los fans del dark, del rock y, por encima de todo, por los fans del metal.
M.S: ¿Qué le diríais a la gente que va a asistir al festival?
L.G: ¡Espero que sean muchos y que estén cargados de adrenalina porque tenemos que entretener y divertir a la gente en el festival!
M.S: Después del festival, ¿cuáles son vuestros proyectos más inmediatos?
L.G: Después del festival regresaremos a casa para terminar y completar nuestro nuevo disco, ya que debería estar listo para febrero o marzo de 2011. Entonces empezaremos nuestra nueva gira, esperando concretar una fecha para tocar, también, en España.

M.S: Hi, thank you for answering our questions. How are you?
Lady Godyva: Hello, I thank you for this interview. It’s a pleasure for me reply to your questions. I’m fine and very excited for Metal Female Voices Fest.
M.S: As you haven’t played in Spain yet, could you introduce yourselves to our readers? Tell us something about when and how the band was formed, your present situation and work…
L.G: Well, I premise that it’s a sorrow for us to never have played in Spain. I hope it could be happen soon because I love Spain so much. Godyva formed in 2000 year (to the beginning of the new millennium) when me and my friends decided to start this run in the music of gothic metal. After the realization of our first demo called Advent, an American label contacted us to propose a contract and in June 2006 our first album In Good and Evil was released for the Sorcery Studios Media Group/Razar Ice Records. For the same label two years later we released our second full lenght album Planetarium and actually we are working for our new album that will be out the next year. Keep in touch for all updates.

L.G: They can listen to some songs of our albums on our Myspace Page or on our Official Website www.godyva.it. M.S: How did the MFVF organization get in touch with you? Did you send them first your material? Or did they call you? I’m sure you’ll be more than proud participating in this festival which is held every year, right?
L.G: We sent a promo package to them one year ago asking to play at the Metal Female Voices Fest and fortunately they replied positively. So they offered a place for the eighth edition of MFVF on Saturday 23 October with big bands of the international music such as Arch Enemy, Revamp and Tristania with their new Italian singers Mariangela (I’ve listened to some songs of their new album and I really like their new sound). Yes, we are very proud to take part at the MFVF this year, it’s a great event!
M.S: Nowadays, would you say that having women in a metal band leaves you in a second place concerning the rest of the bands in the metal scene? I mean, in the rest of the metal festivals you can find only 2 or 3 women fronted bands. Do you consider MFVF as a good way for bands like yours to have the chance to play in big venues?
L.G: I think nowadays bands fronted by women are exponentially growing but there aren’t many big festivals for these bands. In Italy there are different festivals but it’s very difficult to take part in because they are for extreme music or you should pay to play and I don’t agree with this politics. I’m honored to have this chance to play at the MFVF because I think it’s the biggest and the most known.
M.S: MFVF is characterized mainly in hiring bands from so many different countries to come and play in Belgium, how’s the metal scene in your country? Would you recommend any
bands for our readers?
L.G: Yes, the MFVF gathers bands from all over the Europe with different traditions and sounds, languages and histories but with the same passion for the music.
In Italy the music scene is complicated, there are a lot of good bands but few labels that want to invest in their music because our national economy lives difficult moments now.
I can recommend for your readers a band from our same city Natron (the ex-singer Mike Tarantino is the male voice on our song Innocent), Methedras (I have collaborated with them singing on their last album Katarsis), Backjumper, Golem and more other good bands that deserve to be considered.
M.S: You’ll be at the eight edition of MFVF, which bands would you like to see?
L.G: Obviously Arch Enemy, they are a great band and their live performance are absolutely to see at least once in the life. I would like to see Tristania with their new line-up and as I said before I like their new very modern latest album.
M.S: Concerning your show, what can the audience find on stage?
L.G: Our performance will last 30 minutes in the morning of 23 October so I really want to give all our energy and emotions to people there during that time. I don’t use to follow a scheme for our show but I like to improvise between a song and the other. This is the first big festival for our new young guitarist Mori and he is very excited! We don’t bring with us scenographies or special effects, we bring with us only our music and our personality.
M.S: I guess you are playing tracks from your last album “Planetarium”, what could you tell us about it?
L.G: Yes, the most greater part of the live songs we play are almost all taken from the album Planetarium. This album is more modern than In Good and Evil, it contains romantic and alternative rock songs with something different, because our ex-guitarist Anto used to play death or progressive metal. In fact the aggressive sound of guitars with keyboards created a new sound for us. This is very appreciated from dark, rock and above all from metal fans.
M.S: What would you say people to attend the festival?
L.G: I hope they will be numerous and loads of adrenaline because we have to rock and fun at the festival!
M.S: After the festival, which are your more immediate projects?
L.G: After the festival we will come back home to finish and complete our new album because it should be out in February/March 2011. Then we will start the new tour hoping we can fix a date in Spain too.
