M.S: Hola, gracias por responder a nuestras preguntas. ¿Cómo estáis?
Jyri: Bien, gracias por preguntar. Preparando la actuación del MFVF.
M.S: Estuvísteis en 2008 de gira con Korpiklaani en España, ¿podéis decirnos qué recordáis de esos conciertos?
Jyri: Qué recuerdo, la verdad es que es una buena pregunta, porque cómo sobras probablemente, los chicos de Korpiklaani son famosos por beber, así que tuvimos que ingeniárnoslas para seguirles el ritmo, ¡jajaja! Pero la verdad, siempre ha sido un honor tocar en España. Hemos hecho muchos amigos allí y los fans del metal en España son muy entusiastas, lo que está bien. Las actuaciones en Madrid siempre han tenido éxito.
M.S: Vuestra carrera se prolonga por más de diez años ahora mismo, ¿tenéis preparado algo especial para celebrarlo? Alguna actuación especial, o la grabación de un DVD…
Jyri: De hecho, sacamos una edición digipack limitada con nuestro último disco “Doombound”, que contiene un DVD con todos nuestros videos musicales, dos actuaciones en directo, una especie de clip de “diario de la gira” y una gran galería de fotos sobre nuestra carrera.
M.S: ¿Cómo se puso en contacto con vosotros la organización de MFVF? ¿Les mandásteis primero vuestro material? ¿U os llamaron? Estoy seguro/a de que estáis más que orgullosos por participar en este festival que se celebra cada año, ¿me equivoco?
Jyri: Nuestra agencia de reservas hizo esto possible para nosotros y, por supuesto, está muy bien esto de tocar otra vez allí. Tocamos en el MFVF5 y, la verdad, es que nos divertimos con todo el festival. Todo estaba bien organizado y conocimos a mucha gente maravillosa allí.
M.S: Hoy en día, ¿diríais que tener mujeres en un grupo de metal os deja en un segundo puesto respecto al resto de grupos de la escena del metal? Quiero decir, en el resto de los festivales de metal nos podemos encontrar sólo 2 ó 3 mujeres al frente de grupos. ¿Consideráis que MFVF es una buena forma, para grupos como el vuestro, de tener la oportunidad de tocar en grandes escenarios?
Jyri: Por supuesto que nuestro estilo “mujer a la cabeza” corta un poco el patrón en la escena del metal, pero para nosotros no es un problema, ya que es la manera en que queremos expresarnos. Creo que con voces femeninas podemos hacer una música mucho más versátil. Pero tienes razón, hay pocos festivales que vayan dirigidos a grupos con mujeres como cantantes. Esa es una de las razones por las que MFVF es un festival tan importante para grupos como Battlelore.
M.S: MFVF se caracteriza principalmente por contratar grupos de diferentes países para que vayan a tocar a Bélgica, ¿cómo es la escena del metal en vuestro país? ¿Recomendáis algunas bandas a nuestros lectores?
Jyri: El panorama del metal finlandés es muy potente y hay unos cuantos grupos maravillosos que vienen de nuestro país. Todos conocen a grupos finlandeses como HIM, Nightwish, Children Of Bodom, Amorphis y Stratovarius, pero tenéis que echar un vistazo a otros grupos como Ghost Brigade, Evemaster, Insomnium y Swallow The Sun, si no los habéis escuchado antes.
M.S: Estaréis en la novena edición del MFVF, ¿qué grupos os gustaría ver?
Jyri: Therion, Leaves’ Eyes y Draconian.
M.S: Con respecto al concierto, ¿qué se puede encontrar el público en el escenario?
Jyri: ¡A siete finlandeses locos, vestidos de guerreros, sacudiendo sus cabezas y dándolo todo en la actuación!
M.S: Supongo que tocaréis canciones de vuestro disco “Doombound”, ¿qué nos podéis decir de él?
Jyri: ¡Si, tocaremos unas pocas de nuestro último disco, pero en nuestro repertorio se mantienen las viejas glorias! ¿Qué canciones? ¡Eso ya lo veréis si vais a ver nuestro concierto!
M.S: ¿Qué le diríais a la gente que va a asistir al festival?
Jyri: Beber cerveza, pasáoslo bien, beber cerveza, sacudir vuestras cabezas como maníacos, tomaros unas pocas cervezas, disfrutar con la música y finalmente: ¡¡¡beber algo más de cerveza!!!!¡JAJAJA!
M.S: Después del festival, ¿cuáles son vuestros proyectos más inmediatos?
Jyri: Hmm… déjame pensar… ¡¡¡¡BEBER ALGO DE CERVEZA!!!!¡Jajajajajaja! Desgraciadamente tenemos que coger un vuelo a casa el sábado, temprano, así que no podremos quedarnos y pasarlo bien en ese ambiente y con los grupos.
M.S: ¡Gracias por vuestro tiempo! Nos vemos en octubre en el MFVF y mucha suerte con vuestra carrera.

M.S: Hi, thank you for answering our questions. How are you?
Jyri: Fine, thanks for asking. Just preparing for the MFVF gig.
M.S: You were in 2008 on tour with Korpiklaani in Spain, can you tell us what do you remember about those concerts?
Jyri: What do I remember, is really a good question, because as you probably know, the guys of Korpiklaani are quite famous about their drinking so we really had to do our best to keep up with them, hahaha! But, seriously it has always been very nice to play in Spain. We have made a lot of friends in there and the metal fans of Spain are very enthusiastic which is always nice. The shows in Madrid have always been very successful for us.
M.S: Your career extends more than 10 years now, will you have any special event to celebrate it? Any special show, or dvd recording…
Jyri: Actually we released a special limited edition digipack with our latest album Doombound, which contains a DVD with all of our music videos, two live shows, a kind of “tour diary” clip and a huge photo gallery from our career.
M.S: How did the MFVF organization get in touch with you? Did you send them first your material? Or did they call you? I’m sure you’ll be more than proud participating in this festival which is held every year, right?
Jyri: Our booking agency made this possible for us and of course it is nice to play there again. We playeed in MFVF 5 and we really enjoyed the whole festival. Everything was well organized and we met a lot of great people there.
M.S: Nowadays, would you say that having women in a metal band leaves you in a second place concerning the rest of the bands in the metal scene? I mean, in the rest of the metal festivals you can find only 2 or 3 women fronted bands. Do you consider MFVF as a good way for bands like yours to have the chance to play in big venues?
Jyri: Of course our “female fronted” style cut a little bit our position in metal scene, but for us it is not a problem as this is the way we want to express ourselves. I feel that with female vocals we can do much more versatile music. But, you are right that there isn’t that many festivals which are only pointed to female fronted groups. That’s one of the reasons why MFVF is a very important festival for the bands like Battlelore.
M.S: MFVF is characterized mainly in hiring bands from so many different countries to come and play in Belgium, how’s the metal scene in your country? Would you recommend any bands for our readers?
Jyri: Finnish metal scene is very strong and there’s more than a few amazing bands coming from our country. Everyone knows the Finnish bands like HIM, Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Amorphis and Stratovarius, but you really should check out the bands like Ghost Brigade, Evemaster, Insomnium and Swallow the Sun if you haven’t heard them before.
M.S: You’ll be at the nine edition of MFVF, which bands would you like to see?
Jyri: Therion, Leaves’ Eyes and Draconian.
M.S: Concerning your show, what can the audience find on stage?
Jyri: Seven crazy Finns, dressed as warriors, banging their heads and giving their hearts for the show!
M.S: I guess you are playing tracks from your “Doombound”, what could you tell us about it?
Jyri Yes, we’ll play a few ones from our latest album, but we will still keep the golden oldies in our set list! Which songs? That you’ll find out if you’ll come to see our show!
M.S: What would you say people to attend the festival?
Jyri: Drink some beer, have a lot of fun, drink beer, bang your heads like maniacs, have a few beers, enjoy the music and finally: drink some more beer!!! HAHAHA!
M.S: After the festival, which are your more immediate projects?
Jyri: Hmm.. let me think… TO DRINK SOME BEER!!!!! Hahahahahaha! Unfortunately we have to fly back home early on Saturday so we can’t stay and enjoy the atmosphere and the bands.
