Tras verlos presentar su último “Applause of distant crowd” junto a Haken, VOLA vendrán el próximo mes de Septiembre en su propia gira junto a Rendezvous Point y Arch Echo. Por eso nos ponemos en contacto con su batería Adam para que nos explique como están preparando la gira y que presente al grupo si aún hay alguien que desconoce de su existencia… Estas son sus declaraciones…

MS: Hola a todos, gracias por responder nuestras preguntas … ¿Que tal están?
¡Hola! Estoy muy bien, gracias! ¡Gracias por preguntar!
M.S: Como es la primera vez que os entrevistamos en Metal Symphony, nos gustaría que os presentarais a nuestros lectores y nos contaras un poco sobre cómo se formó el grupo, qué estilo tocáis … etc …
Somos VOLA de Dinamarca / Suecia y tocamos música rock / metal con ideas de pop, electrónica, indie y música progresiva solo por nombrar algunas influencias generales.
La banda se formó en 2006 en Copenhague, pero no fue hasta 2015 que lanzamos nuestro álbum debut "Inmazes". Más tarde, ese álbum fue seguido por nuestro segundo álbum "Applause Of A Distant Crowd", que se lanzó en 2018, el año pasado.
Desde el lanzamiento de nuestro primer álbum, hemos realizado giras con bandas como Katatonia, Monuments y Haken. Y este septiembre, haremos nuestra primera como cabezas de cartel, ¡algo muy emocionante para nosotros!
M.S: ¿Y qué significa vuestro nombre jeje …
El nombre "VOLA" significa "volar" en italiano. Describe más o menos la sensación que pretendemos lograr con nuestra música, donde queremos darle al oyente la sensación de volar o elevarse.
M.S: Lleváis más de diez años como banda y solo habéis editado dos álbumes y tres ep’s ¿la música de Vola es realmente compleja para ir a este ritmo?
La complejidad de la música realmente no tiene nada que ver con el tiempo que nos lleva tener un álbum terminado. Para nosotros, se trata más de asegurarnos de que todos los detalles se sientan en la grabación. También hemos realizado gran parte del trabajo, donde, por ejemplo, nuestros dos álbumes han sido mezclados por nuestro vocalista / guitarrista, Asger Mygind. Hacer cosas nosotros mismos significa que podemos tomar más tiempo para perfeccionar los álbumes, lo que puede ser tanto positivo como negativo. Sin embargo, para nuestro próximo álbum, intentaremos trabajar con plazos más estrictos que nos obliguen a salir de nuestras zonas de confort.
M.S: Cuéntanos sobre tu nuevo álbum “Applause of distant crowd”, ¿qué diferencias hay con respecto a vuestro último álbum "Inmazes"?
Nuestro álbum "Inmazes" es más mecánico y perfecto en términos de producción. Y el tema general del álbum se ve más hacia adentro y aborda las luchas internas, mientras que “Applause of distant crowd” observa y mira hacia la sociedad, siendo más externo en su naturaleza.
“Applause of distant crowd” también es diferente en cómo suena, ya que decidimos optar por un sonido más crudo y orgánico. No queríamos perfeccionar todo en la mezcla y queríamos que se sintiera más vivo, por eso suena un poco más sucio.
M.S: Os vimos tocar con Haken en España, ¿qué recuerdos tenéis de esa gira?
Esa fue una gira encantadora, ¡realmente la disfrutamos! Hay tantos buenos recuerdos de esa gira. Salir con las bandas y el equipo, conocer a los fans, tocar en grandes ciudades y lugares increíbles. Pero algunos de los mejores recuerdos vienen del día libre que tuvimos en Barcelona. El tiempo estuvo genial y tuvimos la oportunidad de pasear y ver la hermosa ciudad, comer algo excelente y simplemente pasar un buen rato. ¡Estamos ansiosos por volver!
M.S: Si hay alguien que no ha visto un directo de VOLA, ¿cómo lo definirías?
Si aún no nos ha visto en vivo, entonces debe esperar momentos pesados ??e intensos junto con momentos profundos y atmosféricos. Se trata de pasar un buen rato y disfrutar de la música y tratamos de brindarte esa alegría como un descanso del estrés de la vida cotidiana.
M.S: ¿Cómo preparáis esta gira como cabezas de cartel?
Para esta gira propia, tocaremos canciones de "Inmazes" y “Applause of distant crowd” que no hemos tocado en vivo antes, por lo que estamos practicando esas canciones y tratando de formar nuestra mejor lista de canciones posible. También nos estamos asegurando de que todas las cosas prácticas estén en orden, como el nuevo merchandising, por ejemplo. Hay muchas cosas que preparar, pero la emoción elimina el estrés.

Hello! I’m doing very well, thank you! Thanks for asking!
M.S: As it is the first time that we are interviewing you in Metal Symphony, we would want you to introduce yourself to our readers and tell us a little about how the group was formed,what style do you play… etc …
We are VOLA from Denmark/Sweden and we play rock/metal music that is infused with ideas from pop, electronica, indie and progressive music just to name a few general influences. So the band formed back in 2006 in Copenhagen, but it wasn’t until 2015 that we released our debut album ‘Inmazes’. That album was later followed by our second album ‘Applause Of A Distant Crowd’ which was released in 2018, last year. Since releasing our first album, we have toured with bands such as Katatonia, Monuments and Haken. And this September, we’re heading out on our first very own headline-tour, which is very exciting for us!
M.S: And what does your name means hehe…
The name ‘VOLA’ means ‘to fly’ in Italian. It pretty much describes the feeling that we aim to achieve with our music, where we want to give the listener a sense of flying or soaring.
M.S: With your ten years as a band and you have only released two albums and three ep’s, is Vola’s music really complex to go at this rate?
The complexity of the music doesn’t really have anything to do with how long it takes for us to have a finished album. For us it’s more about making sure that all the details feel right in the bigger picture. We have also done a lot of the work ourselves, where for example both our albums have been mixed by our vocalist/guitarist, Asger Mygind. Doing things ourselves means that we can take more time to perfect the albums, which can be both positive and negative.
For our next album however, we will try to work with more strict deadlines which will force us out of our comfort zones.
M.S: Tell us about your new album “Applause of distant crowd”,what differences are there regarding your last album “Inmazes”?
Our album ‘Inmazes’ is more mechanic and perfected in terms of the production. And the general theme of the album looks more inwards and deals with internal struggles, while ‘Applause Of A Distant Crowd’ observes and looks towards society instead, being more external in its nature.
‘Applause Of A Distant Crowd’ is also different in how it sounds, since we decided to go for a more raw and organic sound. We didn’t want to perfect everything in the mix and wanted it to feel more alive, which is why it sounds a bit dirtier.
M.S: We saw you playing with Haken in Spain, what do you remember about this tour?
That was a lovely tour, we really enjoyed it! There are so many good memories from that tour. Hanging with the bands and the crew, meeting fans, playing in great cities and awesome venues. But some of the best memories come from the day off that we had in Barcelona. The weather was great and we got the chance to walk around and see the beautiful city, eat some great food and just have a lovely time. We can’t wait to be back there!
M.S: If there is someone who has not seen a VOLA show, how would you define it?
If you haven’t seen us live yet, then you should expect heavy and intense moments coupled together with deep and atmospheric moments. It’s all about having a good time and enjoying the music and we try to bring you that joy as a break from the stress of everyday life.
M.S: How do you prepare this tour as headliners?
For this headline-tour, we will be playing songs from both ‘Inmazes’ and ‘Applause Of A Distant Crowd’ that we haven’t played live before, so we are practicing on those songs and trying to put together our best possible setlist. We are also making sure that all the practical things are in order, such as new merch for example. There is a lot of stuff to prepare, but the excitement gets rid of the stress.
