Primero, comencé a filmar shows en vivo.

ENGLISH VERSION

M.S: Hello Tim, it’s a pleasure to have you on our page, how are you?

I am very well, thank you. In the middle of the final steps towards the official release of my book.

M.S. Renowned photographer related to rock and metal, but … if there is still someone who does not know you, tell us when you start in the world of photography and why you decide with concert photography …

As a kid, I’ve always been fascinated with all things visual, whether that be creating amateur videos or photos, editing in simple photo software, drawing … When I started getting more into music, at the age of 16, I started combining the love for art with my passion for music. First, I started shooting live shows. It didn’t take me long to grow this curiosity to find out what was going on behind the stage and shoot some remarkable portraits of the musicians.
When going back to the live aspect of music, I’ve always loved that, because it’s one of those kinds of photograhpy where you have no control over the situation whatsoever. You just have to let go and try and frame the moment as good as it presents itself to you.

M.S. Your first book "Portraits" is ready to go out, portraits of a lot of musicians friends of yours seen in a completely different way … how did you get the idea? Is it a book for fans or for photographers?

I believe the book is both for fans of music, but definitely photographers as well.
I got the idea when I was at an exhibition of classical art, focussing on these old portraits. All of a sudden, the idea dawned on me me to combine the two. I already had quite a lot of friends in music at that time, so I asked them if they’d like to be involved. They immediately jumped onto the wagon.

M.S. We have seen that with the book you will help Psychosenet, tell us that contribution and what the organization is dedicated to…

Psychosenet is a completely independent organisation, helping those in need of mental health care. They guide those people towards the right kind of help, as quickly as possible, to overcome the long waiting lists that mental health care still faces nowadays.
I’ve chosen this specific organisation, because I’ve lost quite some friends to this and, as a teacher, I face this issue on a daily basis. It’s what appeals to me most.

M.S. You have gathered a lot of musicians to appear in the book, I imagine that it has been difficult to coordinate all their agendas … tell us how the process of making a photo session arises every time they passed near your studio.

There were actually two kinds of shoots: the ones in full outfit and the ones that have just a hint of history. Whenever there was an artist in the area and there was time for ten minutes of photos, I would do it. However, there was a select list of my befriended artists that I really wanted to portray all the way: the right outfit, hairstyle, make-up, location …
As soon as I had their confirmation, we checked our schedules and we quickly saw what was possible. It took some time, but in the end, it all worked out.

M.S. As you have taken a long time, you may say to me “NO”, hehe … but will there be a second part of "Portraits"?

You never know. I mean, I never expected this kind of hype around the project. It’s really cool and a bit overwhelming at the same time. Let’s just hope that more musicians want to be part of this, support a good cause and have their picture taken in such a unique way.

Entrevista con Tim Tronckoe sobre Portraits

M.S. For the opening party you will make an exhibition, we imagine that they will have large photographs of the book, right? What can you tell us about that?

The exhition is only going to take two weeks, from September 28 till October 12 and will feature life sized prints of all artists from the book. Some of these portraits are not the same as the ones in the book, which makes it quite an exclusive look in the entire project.
Entry is free, because I want everyone to be able to see the works.

M.S. Is it possible that it is itinerant and can come for example to Spain?

Absolutely. I’ve had that question a few times now and I’m very open to the idea. In case anyone is interested in turning this into a travelling exhibition, I can only welcome that.

Entrevista con Tim Tronckoe sobre Portraits

M.S. Finishing the interview, … will there be an upcoming musical photography book? Or maybe from another topic?

I already have some ideas, but nothing too specific yet. Let’s first make this a success and then we’ll see 😉

M.S. Well that’s it for now. Thank you for answering our questions and we hope you come soon to Spain, if you want to leave a message to our readers this is the moment.

Thanks for having me! It was a pleasure answering your questions.

Everyone, if you want to preorder the book and support a good cause, all in one, go over to www.timtronckoe.com, to my store and get that shit done! 🙂
