M.S: Hola, gracias por responder a nuestras preguntas. ¿Qué tal?
¡Bien, gracias! ¡Ocupados, pero así es como nos gusta estar!
M.S: Vuestra carrera se alarga por más de diez años, ahora mismo, ¿tendréis algún evento especial para celebrarlo? Alguna actuación especial, o la grabación de un DVD…
Bueno, de hecho nos acercamos a nuestro 15º aniversario, en 2012, desde el nacimiento de “Trail Of Tears” en 1997, cuando el nombre fue anunciado por primera vez. Tendremos un nuevo disco, así que, básicamente, el objetivo es estar mucho tiempo del año en la carretera. No hay nada planeado todavía, en lo que se refiere a una actuación por el aniversario, pero algo puede haber, ya veremos.
M.S: ¿Cómo se puso en contacto con vosotros la organización de MFVF? ¿Les mandásteis primero vuestro material? ¿U os llamaron? Estoy seguro/a de que estáis más que orgullosos por participar en este festival que se celebra cada año, ¿me equivoco?
Este año será la tercera vez que estemos en el festival y hemos tenido una muy buena relación con la organización desde la primera actuación allí. Contactamos con el festival y expresamos nuestro de deseo de ser incluidos en el cartel y desde entonces, hemos mantenido el contacto y ha dado como resultado nuestra vuelta dos años después, al igual que este año. Es un gran festival, muy bien organizado, profesional y con una gran audiencia.
M.S: Hoy en día, ¿diríais que tener mujeres en un grupo de metal os deja en un segundo puesto respecto al resto de grupos de la escena del metal? Quiero decir, en el resto de los festivales de metal nos podemos encontrar sólo 2 ó 3 mujeres al frente de grupos. ¿Consideráis que MFVF es una buena forma, para grupos como el vuestro, de tener la oportunidad de tocar en grandes escenarios?
Claro que no. Durante años hemos tenido bastante suerte de tocar en algunos de los grandes festivales en Europa, como Dynamo Open Air, Wacken, Summer Breeze, Metal Camp, Wave Gotik Treffen y otros más, así que, definitivamente, no creo que el tener una cantante haya sido más difícil para nosotros. La buena música es buena música, a pesar de todo, y nunca hemos tenido el presentimiento de pertenecer a la escena de esos grupos liderados por mujeres, por el hecho de tener a una cantante. Nos consideramos, en primer lugar, un buen grupo de música metal, a pesar de los géneros, pero por supuesto que un festival como MFVF siempre será un buen escaparate, para nosotros, para presentar nuestra música.
M.S: MFVF se caracteriza principalmente por contratar grupos de diferentes países para que vayan a tocar a Bélgica, ¿cómo es la escena del metal en vuestro país? ¿Recomendáis algunas bandas a nuestros lectores?
Bueno, en mi opinion Noruega, aun así tiene una potente escena del metal, aunque, probablemente se veía más potente en los 90, internacionalmente. Muchos de mis grupos favoritos son, de hecho, noruegos, como “Emperor”, “Dimmu Borgir” y “Madrugada”, aunque este último no sea un grupo de metal.
M.S: Estaréis en la novena edición de MFVF, ¿qué grupos os gustaría ver?
De hecho, no he tenido tiempo para estudiar el orden en el que los grupos van a tocar en los diferentes días, así que depende de la programación y el tiempo que tengamos. También hay otros compromisos, como la sesión de fotos, firmas y entrevistas, etc., así que nos tomaremos las cosas con tranquilidad según lleguen. Tenemos, también, muchos amigos a los que no vemos desde hace mucho, así que dar una vuelta y pasar un buen rato es igual de importante para mí cuando estoy en el festival.
M.S: Con respecto a vuestra actuación, ¿qué se puede encontrar el público en el escenario?
No quiero dar muchos detalles porque estropearía la sorpresa, pero seguramente que tengamos algún nuevo decorado en el escenario y toquemos algunas canciones que no tocamos desde hace tiempo. El listado será una gran combinación de material viejo y nuevo y, en general, veréis a un grupo dar el 110%, para asegurar que la gente tenga una gran experiencia.
M.S: Este disco fue grabado hace dos años, ¿no habéis pensado en grabar uno nuevo próximamente? ¿Tenéis ya nuevo material? ¿Podremos escuchar algo nuevo en el MFVF?
De hecho, acabamos de grabar nuestro nuevo disco en Marsella (Francia) y ha sido mezclado según hablamos. Así que aunque quisiésemos hacerlo, es muy pronto para tocar algunas de las nuevas canciones en el festival de este año. Pero estamos muy contentos con los resultados del nuevo disco y estamos impacientes de hacer una gira para promocionarlo, una vez que salga a la venta.
M.S: Supongo que tocaréis canciones de vuestro disco “Bloodstained Endurance”, ¿qué nos podéis decir de él?
Por supuesto que habrá algunas canciones del disco “Bloodstained Endurance”, ya que es nuestro trabajo más reciente, pero como he dicho, no quiero dar una lista detallada, la gente tiene que ir y juzgar ellos mismos 🙂 ¡Creo que será un repertorio fascinante!
M.S: ¿Qué le diríais al público que va a asistir al festival?
¡Simplemente, que estamos con ganas de darles una gran actuación y de volverles a ver! ¡Pasaremos un buen rato juntos!
M.S: Después del festival, ¿cuáles son vuestros proyectos más inmediatos?
Antes de nada, después del festival, iremos a China por primera vez para dar siete actuaciones por todo el país, eso es algo que llevamos buscando con gran expectación. Después de eso, sacaremos nuestro recientemente grabado disco y nos pondremos en marcha para promocionarlo.

M.S: Hi, thank you for answering our questions. How are you?
Doing fine, thanks! Busy times but that`s how we like it!
M.S: Your career extends more than 10 years now, will you have any special event to celebrate it? Any special show, or dvd recording…
Well, we are actually approaching the 15th anniversary in 2012 since the real birth of Trail of Tears was in 1997, when the name was first announced. We will have a new album out so basically we aim at spending a lot of the year on the road. Nothing is planned yet regarding an anniversary show but something might definitely happen, we`ll see.
M.S: How did the MFVF organization get in touch with you? Did you send them first your material? Or did they call you? I’m sure you’ll be more than proud participating in this festival which is held every year, right?
This year will be our third time at the festival and we have had a great relationship with the organization ever since the first performance there. Bak then we contacted the festival and expressed a wish to be included in the bill and since that we have kept in touch which has resulted in returning there two years later, and again now this year. It is a great festival, very well organized, professional and with a very good audience.
M.S: Nowadays, would you say that having women in a metal band leaves you in a second place concerning the rest of the bands in the metal scene? I mean, in the rest of the metal festivals you can find only 2 or 3 women fronted bands. Do you consider MFVF as a good way for bands like yours to have the chance to play in big venues?
Absolutely not. Over the years we have been fortunate enough to play some of the biggest festivals in Europe, like Dynamo Open Air, Wacken, Summer Breeze, Metal Camp, Wave Gotik Treffen and several others so we definitely don`t feel that having a female singer has made it any more difficult for us. Good music is good music regardless and we have never really felt that we belong so much in the female fronted scene in the first place just because we have a female singer. We consider ourselves first and foremost a good metal band, regardless of genders but of course a festival such as MFVF will always be a good window for us to present our music.
M.S: MFVF is characterized mainly in hiring bands from so many different countries to come and play in Belgium, how’s the metal scene in your country? Would you recommend any bands for our readers?
Well, in my opinion Norway still has a very strong metal scene even though it was perhaps viewed stronger in the 90`s by the international eye. Many of my favourite bands are still Norwegian bands, such as Emperor, Dimmu Borgir and Madrugada, even if the latter is not a metal band.
M.S: You’ll be at the nine edition of MFVF, which bands would you like to see?
I actually haven`t had much time to study the running order and which bands play on the different days so it depends on the schedule and how much time we have. There are also other obligations, like photo shoots, signing sessions and interviews etc so we take things a little bit as they come. There are also a lot of friends that I haven`t seen in a while so just hanging out and have a nice time is equally important to me when being at festival.
M.S: Concerning your show, what can the audience find on stage?
I don`t want to give too many details because it will spoil the surprise but we will probably have some new stage decors and play some songs that we haven`t done in a while. The setlist will be a good combination of old and newer stuff and in general you will see a band giving 110% to make sure people will have a great experience.
M.S: This album was recorded 2 years ago, haven’t you thought about recording a new one soon? Do you already have new material? Will we be able to listen to new stuff at MFVF?
We actually just finished recording our new album in Marseille, France and the album is being mixed as we speak. So even if we really want to, it is still a bit early to perform some of the new songs at this year`s festival. But we are really happy with the results of the new album and can`t wait to get on tour to promote it once it is released.
M.S: I guess you are playing tracks from your “Bloodstained Endurance”, what could you tell us about it?
There will of course be some songs from Bloodstained as that is still our most recent album but like I said, I don`t want to give a detailed list, people need to come out and check it for themselves 🙂 It will be an exciting setlist I think!
M.S: What would you say people to attend the festival?
Just that we are looking forward to give them a great show and to see them all again! We will have a great time together!
M.S: After the festival, which are your more immediate projects?
First off after the festival, we will be heading to China for the first time to do 7 shows across the country, that is something we look forward to with great excitement. After that we will release the newly recorded new album and hit the road massively to promote it.
