M.S: Hola Chicos, gracias por vuestro tiempo, que tal estáis?
N.P: Hola! Gracias a TI por tu apoyo! Estamos contentos – acabamos de lanzar nuestro nuevo album POWER SEEKER!
M.S: Como habéis notado la evolución del grupo en estos tres años?
N.P: Bueno, muy positivo. Desde que Nikki Puppet nació en el 2004 la respuesta ha sido estupenda, la gente ahora hace las reviews sobre nosotros de forma más seria, han aceptado a Nikki Puppet después de su tercer album. Estoy seguro de que tan rápido como lancemos un nuevo album (ahora cada año) la gente reconocerá que no vamos a parar nunca! La banda está creciendo. Puedes oir nuestro desarrollo en nuestros temas y verlas en vivo sobre el escenario.
Puppet on a String, Militant Mother y Power Seeker, los 3 discos que hemos hecho, el tour europeo con el Michael Schenker Group, el concierto en Wacken, girar con Mob Rules, Victory, Jane, Rose Tattoo… para nosotros este es nuestro mayor sueño hecho realidad! Es un regalo. Por lo que podemos estar muy contentos. Todavía estamos escribiendo canciones –a veces hardrockeras, otras veces más duras, baladas, medios tiempos, punkrock- de cualquier tipo; tocando en vivo y diciendo “hola” a todos los que nos visitan en el stand.
M.S: Nos ha sorprendido que en “Power seeker” tenemos en Yia Sou Saloniki un corte de guitarra clásica, alejándose del estilo de todo el álbum, porque lo habeis puesto allí?
N.P: Tenemos a un componente griego en la banda –Christos Mamalitsidis! Thessaloniki es su ciudad natal. Le encanta la guitarra acústica y Paco de Lucía es su Dios. Esta es la cara oculta de Christos. Se parece a Slash y toca su vieja guitarra Les Paul negra con Nikki Puppet, pero cuando esta en casa se cuelga su guitarra acústica y toca y estudia cada día. En Power Seeker queríamos mostrar suavemente la otra cara de Nikki Puppet. Nuestro nuevo elemento es la guitarra acústica. “Yia Soy Saloniki” (Hola Thessaloniki) es un solo acústico de un minuto de Christos para decir hola al mundo a su estilo. Christos quedó impresionado cuando Zakk Wylde sacó un CD acústico con muchos solos cortos de guitarra. Con “Yia Soy Saloniki” quería hacer lo mismo en su propio estilo. Bueno, nuestro productor Herman Frank (Victory, Accept) se sorprendió y pensó que sería una buena idea ponerlo en el album antes de comenzar con el tema rápido “I spy”.
M.S: También hay que daros la enhorabuena por lo contundente y fuerte que suena este álbum, supongo que será porque vuestro productor sabe sacar vuestro mejor sonido, estais contentos con el resultado final del disco?
N.P: Todos los cds de Nikki Puppet han sido producidos por Herman Frank, guitarrista de Victory y Accept, en el Arena 20, su studio de Hannover, Alemania. Hannover es la ciudad natal de Scorpions.Él vio a Nikki Puppet en vivo en un club de Hannover, Alemania, en 2004 y después del concierto nos invitó a su estudio y nos ofreció grabarnos un CD. Para Christos y para mi nuestro sueño se hizo realidad! Pero la bajista (nuestra última chica) y el batera dejaron la banda, no tenían ni el tiempo ni la energía para empezar una carrera. Pero Christos y yo acordamos con Herman el grabar los temas con un baterista de estudio y buscar los músicos adecuados.
Nos encanta trabajar con él, es increible y tiene muy buenas ideas. El le ha dado a Nikki Puppet su sonido y tiene orejas especiales –que lo escuchan todo. A veces nos ayuda a montar las composiciones. Es realmente bueno tener a alguien viendo las cosas desde fuera, y que es productor y compositor. Y Herman tiene mucha experiencia y un enorme conocimiento sobre el negocio de la música.
La relación con él cada día es más fuerte.
De hecho va a sacar su propio album “Herman Frank – Loyal to None” en febrero del 2009 (www.hermanfrank.com)

M.S: Habéis tenido la suerte que solo con dos discos ya habéis participado en uno de los festivales más importante de Europa como es el WOA, que recuerdos tenéis de aquel concierto?
N.P: Wacken! Gente, en youtube.com. Nikki Puppet tocó “Ignorance” en vivo en el Wacken del 2006, y tenéis que verlo! Fue genial tocar en ese festival! Es una locura: llegas a un pequeño pueblo cerca de Hamburgo y te encuentras con más de 60.000 heavies. Durante algunos días la ciudad está llena de vida! En paz y harmonía con la gente de allí. Tiene un montón de bandas, música, fiesta y diversión para todo le mundo. Y también está bien organizado. La audiencia es estupenda, la gente se sabe las letras y canta los temas con nosotros. Fantástico! Para mi fue muy especial porque mi cumpleaños fue el día siguiente de haber tocado en Wacken 2006 y después de haber sido grabado en vivo. Y mi regalo especial fue conocer al Sr. David Coverdale en persona para darle mi primer cd y hacerme una foto con él. Él es mi idolo, ¿sabes? M.S: Vinisteis a España en el 2006 teloneando a MSG y presentando vuestro “Puppet on a String”, que recuerdos teneis de aquella gira y del público español?
N.P: Como banda de apoyo para el Michael Schenker Group (MSG) estuvimos viajando desde mayo hasta junio del 2006 de Alemania a Holanda, Inglaterra, Escocia, Francia, España, Italia, Suiza, Austria y vuelta a Alemania.
Lo pasamos muy bien con el MSG y disfrutamos cuando la gente venía y nos decía: “Ey, sois los mejores teloneros del mundo”. Los fans se hicieron fotos con nuestra bajista Anke y conmigo en el stand y tocamos con MSG “Docter, Docter” en Londres! Guauuuuu! Cuando vinimos a España lo pasamos muy bien. El sol salió y estabamos deseando que llegaran los shows de Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia y Bergara. Por Christos, mi guitarrista griego, supe que la gente del sur adora el rock y el metal. Por ejemplo: Nikki Puppet + MSG en Munich reunió a 600 personas, y el mismo lote en España, en Valencia, tuvo 2500 personas.
Hablamos con mucha gente, todo el mundo hablaba inglés. Podéis ver muchas fotos del tour en nuestra web. El público estaba lleno de energía, disfrutando del Rock’n’Roll y pasandolo en grande!
M.S: Cuando comenzará la gira de presentación de este nuevo disco?
N.P: Estamos preparando el tour para el 2009. “Power Seeker Tour 2009”. Empezaremos el 13 de febrero en Hamburgo, Alemania, en el Ballroom. Queremos viajar a Grecia en Abril. M.S: Que le espera a Nikki Puppet en este 2009 que está comenzando?

N.P: Vale, aquí tenéis una anécdota de Nikki Puppet y Rose Tattoo: Nikki Puppet es una banda divertida. No nos tomamos demasiado en serio. Cuando le echeis un vistazo a nuestra web podréis encontrar muchas fotos divertidas nuestras (en www.nikkipuppet.de ve a “Pics”) Pero volviendo a la historia con los Tatts: Sí, tuvimos una anécdota muy graciosa con Angry Anderson, el cantante de Rose Tattoo. Tocamos en el 2007 en un gran club llamado Zeche, en Cochum City, Alemania. El camerino de Nikki Puppet estaba junto al de los Tatts, pero las duchas estaban en el nuestro. Angry vino y nos invitó a todos a ducharnos con él. Bueno, todavía estamos sorprendidos por la oferta. Sólo Anke, nuestra bajista, le dijo muy chula: “Angry, querido, mira, todavía no eres lo suficientemente alto así que… ¿podrías afeitarme las piernas? Jajajajaaaa, Angry cogió la broma. Pero se fue a la ducha sólo…

Hello! Thank YOU for your support! We´re happy – just released our new album POWER SEEKER right now!
M.S: How do you feel the development of the band through the past 3 years?
Well, very positive. Since NIKKI PUPPET was born in 2004, the feedback is great, people write their rviews about us now more seriously, they accept NIKKI PUPPET after their 3rd album. I´m sure as quick as we release a new album (every year now) people recognized that we never gonna stop! The band is growing, you know. You can hear our development in our songs and watch them live on stage.
PUPPET ON A STRING, MILITANT MOTHER and POWER SEEKER, our three CDs we made, the european tour with MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP, the gig at Wacken, touring with Mob Rules, VICTORY, Jane, ROSE TATTOO…for us this was our biggest dream came true! It´s a gift. So, we can be very happy. We´re still writing songs – sometimes hard, more hard, ballads, uptempo-song, punkrock – whatever, playing live, say “hello” to everybody who visits us at our merch.
M.S: We are surprised because in “Power seeker” we found Yia Sou Saloniki, a song with classic guitar, far from the style of the entire album, why did you include it?
We have one greek man in the band – Christos Mamalitsidis! Thessaloniki is his hometown. He likes acoustic guitar, Paco de Lucia is his god, you know. This is the other side of Christos. Ok, he´s looking like Slash and plays his old, black Les Paul guitar with NIKKI PUPPET, but when he´s at home he puts out his acoustic guitar and he´s playing and learnung every day. On Power Seeker we deinetly wanted to show the other side of NIKKI PUPPET. Our new element is the acoustic guitar. “Yia Sou Saloniki” (Hello Thessaloniki) is a 1-Minute-Acoustic-Solo by Christos to say hello to the world in his style. Christos was impressed when Zakk Wylde released an acoustic CD with many short guitar soli on it. With “Yia Sou Saloniki” he wanted to do the same in his own style. Well, our producer Herman Frank (Victory, Accept) was surprised and thought it´s a great idea to put it on the album before the fast song “I spy” starts.
M.S: We also want to congratulate you on the heavy and strong sound of this album, I suppose it’s because your producer knows how to get the best sound from you. Are you satisfied with the final result?
All CDs from NIKKI PUPPET were produced by Herman Frank, guitarplayer for Victory and Accept, at his ARENA 20 Recording Studios in Hannover, Germany. Hannover, hometown of the Scorpions.
He saw NIKKI PUPPET live in a club in Hannover/Germany in 2004 and after this concert he invited us to his Studio to offer us recording a CD. For Christos and me a dream came true! But – our last female-bassplayer and the drummer left the band, they didn´t have the time and the energy to start a career. Ok, but Christos and me agreed with Herman recording the songs with a studio-drummer and searching the right musicians.
We love to work with him, he is awesome and has really good ideas.
He gave NIKKI PUPPET the burning sound and he has special ears – hearing everything. Sometimes he helps us to put our compositions in the right way. It´s very good to have somebody looking from the outside, who´s producer and songwriter. And Herman has much experience and a very big background-knowledge about the music business.
The relationship with him grows stronger and stronger.

M.S: You were lucky, because with only 2 albums you had the chance to play in one of the biggest European festivals, WOA. What memories do you have from that show?
Wacken! People, at YOUTUBE.COM. NIKKI PUPPET played “Ignorance” live at Wacken 2006, so watch it! It was really great to play at this festival! It´s totally crazy: You come to a small village near Hamburg and you meet more than 60.000 Metal Heads. For some days the village is full of life! In peace and harmony with the village people. Lots of bands, music, party and fun everybody has. And it´s good organized, too. The audience is great, people know your lyrics and sing your songs together with the band! Great! For me it was very special because after we played live at Wacken 2006 and had been filmed on stage, I had birthday the following day. And my special gift was to meet for a short time Mr. David Coverdale himself to give him my first CD and make a picture with him. He was my ideol, you know? M.S: You came to Spain in 2006 supporting MSG and introducing “Puppet on a String”, what do you remember from that tour and the Spanish audience?
Supporting the Michael Schenker Group (MSG) from May ´til June 2006 we traveled from Germany to the Netherlands, England, Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, Swiss, Austria and back to Germany.
We had a great time together with MSG and we enjoyed that people came to us and said:“Hey, you´re the best support band in the world“. The fans made many pictures of our female bass player Anke and me at the merchendise and we played with MSG „Docter, Docter“ live on stage in London! Whow! When we traveled to Spain we had a great time. The sun came out and we were looking forward to the shows in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Bergara. From my greek guitar player Christos I knew that the people in the south love Rock and Metal. For example: Nikki Puppet + MSG in Munich 600 people, the same package in Spain, Valencia, 2500 people.
We talked to much people at the merch, everybody talked in english. You can see much photos from our Tour on our homepage. You can see the audience was full of power, celebrating Rock´n´Roll and had a great time!
M.S: When will you start “Power Seeker” tour?
We´re planning a tour in 2009. “Power Seeker Tour 2009”. We start at Febuary 13rd in Hamburg, Germany, at the Ballroom. We want to travel to Greece in April. NIKKI PUPPET is a funny band. We don´t take ourselves so seriously. When you take a look on our homepage, you can find many funny photos from us (www.nikkipuppet.de, chose “Pics”). But to come back to my story with the Tatts: Yeah, one story was very funny we had with Angry Anderson, the singer from ROSE TATTOO. We had a show in 2007 at a great club called Zeche, Bochum City, Germany. NIKKI PUPPET had their dressing room next to the Tatts, but in our room were the showers. Angry came in and invited the whole band to take a shower together with him. Well, we´d still been surprised by his offer. Only Anke, our bassplayer, said to him very cool: “Angry, my dear, look, you´re still not very tall – so, can you shave my legs?” Haha, Angry got the joke. But – he went to the shower alone…
