M.S: Hace unos días acabasteis la grabación de vuestro primer video clip “Sceneries of Hope”, donde grabasteis el video, que tal fue, quien lo grabó, estáis contentos con el resultado?
Hemos trabajado con un equipo muy profesional llamado “Arteman”, son una productora de tv. Ha sido una experiencia muy gratificante. Nos lo pasamos muy bien durante la grabación, pero también hemos acabado exhaustos dado que hemos grabado en cuatro sitios diferentes en tan sólo un día y medio. Las localizaciones son únicas e impresionantes. Hemos grabado en unas minas de sal romanas que están en proceso de ser declaradas patrimonio de la humanidad. También en dos parques naturales, incluso dentro de una cantera. Esta última es una explotación privada y la única forma de acceder a ella es en un 4×4. Cuando llegamos todavía había algunos trabajadores que no sabían que íbamos a grabar. Se quedaron muy sorprendidos al ver a cuatro tíos vestidos de cuero negro y una chica que salía de un 4×4 con todo el equipo de batería, jaja, fue muy gracioso. Cuando empezamos a tocar, no se lo podían creer y empezaron a sacar fotos como locos para luego enseñárselos a sus colegas al día siguiente.
En resumen, la experiencia ha sido genial y estamos muy contentos con el resultado. Las localizaciones son preciosas y además hemos conseguido unas imágenes aéreas impresionantes gracias al uso de la “helicam”. ¡Estamos deseando que salga a la luz!
M.S: Supongo que a día de hoy ya se da por supuesto el avance de las nuevas tecnologías y que un video de metal se verá más por Internet antes que por la televisión ( al menos en España ), que pensáis sobre eso? Podríamos decir que va teniendo más importancia la difusión de Internet en frente a un elemento consolidado como es la televisión?
Por supuesto, es más, yo casi ni veo la tele, y creo que incluso las series o las pelis se están haciendo cada vez más populares en internet hoy en día. La música por supuesto también ha cobrado esa popularidad. En mi opinión, lo que realmente marca la diferencia es el hecho de que internet es gratis, es decir, la gente puede subir lo que quieran y el público pueden ver lo que quiera. Sin embargo, para aparecer en la tv o en la radio, normalmente tienes que pagar. Yo diría que internet es más “real”, si entiendes lo que quiero decir.
M.S: ¿Cómo se puso en contacto con vosotros la organización de MFVF? ¿Les enviasteis primero vuestro material?, u ¿os llamaron? Estoy seguro de que estáis más que orgullosos por participar en este festival que se celebra cada año, ¿verdad?
¡Por supuesto! En realidad esta es nuestra tercera vez allí. El primer año fuimos invitados por el promotor después de escuchar nuestra demo. Le gusto mucho nuestra música y nos invitó tan solo para conocerles a él y al festival. El año pasado volvimos y esta vez para tocar, y la reacción del público fue increíble, tanto que nos han llamado para volver este año. ¡Estamos deseando estar allí! Nos encanta este festival, realmente te hacen sentir como parte de una gran familia. ¡La atmósfera entre los grupos, los organizadores y el público es fantástica! Además, tenemos muchos amigos allí y estamos deseando volver a verles de nuevo.
M.S: Hoy en día, ¿diríais que tener mujeres en un grupo de metal os deja en un segundo puesto respecto al resto de grupos de la escena del metal? Quiero decir, en el resto de los festivales de metal nos podemos encontrar sólo 2 ó 3 mujeres al frente de grupos. ¿Consideráis que MFVF es una buena forma, para grupos como el vuestro, de tener la oportunidad de tocar en grandes escenarios?
Por supuesto que lo es, pero nuestra meta es que en un futuro cercano los “festivales femeninos” no sean tan necesarios en ese sentido. Quiero decir que nos gustaría que el número de grupos “con líder masculino” y los que tienen “líder femenina” sea el mismo, y que la gente no considere a los grupos con cantante femenina como un género en sí mismo. Como bien dices, en los festivales grandes solo encontramos 2 ó 3 grupos liderados por mujeres, quizá porque algunos promotores piensan que ese número es suficiente para satisfacer a parte del público, cuando en realidad tener una cantante femenina no implica necesariamente que el grupo sea de metal gótico. De hecho, muchos de nosotros no lo somos. Hay grupos con cantante femenina de metal sinfónico, de rock, de trash, de música electrónica, etc. Así que olvidemos si la cantante es una mujer o no. Opino que ese sería el primer paso en la igualdad en la escena del metal.
M.S: MFVF se caracteriza principalmente por contratar grupos de diferentes países para que vayan a tocar a Bélgica, ¿cómo es la escena del metal en vuestro país? ¿Recomendáis algunas bandas a nuestros lectores?
Para ser francos, no sigo la escena nacional demasiado. Tengo la sensación de que en España aún somos un poco “tradicionales” y no damos oportunidades a los grupos noveles. Al menos esa es la sensación que tengo cuando veo algunos de los carteles de los festivales que se organizan en España. Seguro que hay muchos grupos muy buenos en nuestro país que aún no conocemos, y es una lástima. Por ejemplo están Angelus Apatrida, que son muy buenos, ¿pero creéis que alguien les habría apoyado en España antes de firmar contrato con Century Media? ¿Y por qué no? ¿Por qué no apostamos aquí por los buenos grupos nacionales?
M.S: Estaréis en la novena edición de MFVF, ¿qué grupos os gustaría ver?
Me gustaría ver a muchos, pero en el MFVF normalmente se tiene un horario muy ajustado y ocupado. Hay que llevar todo el material al backstage como unas tres horas antes del concierto, las sesiones de firmas, las entrevistas, las sesiones de fotos… así que no puedes ver todos los conciertos que quisieras. Al menos este año seremos capaces de ver de nuevo a Doro y también a Therion por primera vez.
M.S: Con respecto a vuestra actuación, ¿qué se va a encontrar el público en el escenario?
Encontrarán un concierto muy dinámico con una banda que realmente disfruta tocando en directo y también algunas sorpresas. Tocaremos 2 ó 3 temas nuevos, lanzaremos oficialmente nuestro primer videoclip ¡y también tendremos invitados especiales!
M.S: ¿Qué le diríais a la gente que va a asistir al festival?
Estamos seguros de que se lo pasarán en grande en el festival. Como ya he dicho antes, la atmósfera es realmente increíble y verán muchos grandes grupos y descubrirán otros nuevos. Hay muchas sorpresas esperándoles, ¡eso es seguro!
M.S: Después del festival, ¿Cuáles son vuestros proyectos más inmediatos?
El lanzamiento de nuestro segundo disco y su promoción tanto como nos sea posible, incluyendo un tour por Europa.

Thank you for asking. We are fine, excited with the preparations for the MFVF and the new album!

It’s not difficult. On the internet above all. M.S: A few days ago you just finished recording your very first video, ‘Sceneries of Hope’, where was it filmed? How was the experience? Who recorded it? Are you happy with the result?
We worked with a very professional team called ‘Arteman’, they are a tv production company. It was a very nice experience. We had lots of fun during the recordings, but it was also exhausting, as we recorded in four different places in only one day and a half. The locations are unique and really impressive. We recorded in a roman saltmine which is in the process of being declared world heritage, in two natural parks and inside a big quarry. The last one is a private exploitation and the only way to access inside it is by 4×4. When we arrived, there were still some workers there who didn’t know we were going to record. They were really surprised when they saw four guys dress in black leather and a girl going out from the 4×4 with a full drum kit haha, it was really funny. When we started to play they couldn’t believe it and started to take pics like crazy to show them to their colleagues the following day.
In short, the experience was great and we are very happy with the result. The locations are really beautiful and we also achieved impressive aerial images by using a ‘helicam’. We can’t wait to release it!
M.S: I guess that nowadays people assume the advances of the new technologies, and also that a metal video will be watched more times on the Internet than on TV (at least in Spain), what do you think about this? Could we say that Internet is gaining more importance when talking about the distribution of this material over a more stable media such as TV?
Absolutely, actually I barely watch TV and I think that even soap operas or films are more and more popular on the internet nowadays. Music, for sure, it is. In my opinion, what really makes the difference is mainly the fact that the internet is free, I mean, people can upload whatever they want and the audience can see whatever they want too. However, to appear on TV or on the radio, you usually need to pay a lot. I would say that the internet is more ‘real’ if you see what I mean.
M.S: How did the MFVF organization get in touch with you? Did you send them first your material? Or did they call you? I’m sure you’ll be more than proud participating in this festival which is held every year, right?
For sure! Actually this is the third time we attend. The first year we were invited by the promoter after he listened to our demo. He really liked our music and he invited us only to meet him and the fest. Last year we came back to play and the reaction of the audience was so great that they called us to play this year again. We cannot wait to come back! We really love this festival, you really feel the same as if you were inside a big family. The atmosphere between bands, organizers and audience is fantastic! Besides, we have many friends now there and we are looking forward to meeting them again.
M.S: Nowadays, would you say that having women in a metal band leaves you in a second place concerning the rest of the bands in the metal scene? I mean, in the rest of the metal festivals you can find only 2 or 3 women fronted bands. Do you consider MFVF as a good way for bands like yours to have the chance to play in big venues?
Of course it is, but our aim is that in the near future, ‘female festivals’ are not necessary in that way. I mean, we would like that the number of ‘male fronted bands’ and the number of ‘female fronted’ ones it’s the same and that people don’t consider female fronted metal bands as a genre itself. As you say, in big festivals you can only find 2 or 3 female fronted bands, maybe because some promoters think that with that number is enough to satisfy a part of the audience, when being a female fronted band doesn’t mean that you are necessarily a ‘gothic’ metal band. Actually most of us aren’t. There are female fronted symphonic metal bands, rock bands, trash bands, electro bands and so on… So let’s forget if the singer is a woman or not. I guess this would be the first step to equality in the metal scene.
M.S: MFVF is characterized mainly in hiring bands from so many different countries to come and play in Belgium, how’s the metal scene in your country? Would you recommend any bands for our readers?
To be honest, I don’t follow the national scene very much. I have the feeling that in Spain we are still a bit ‘traditional’ and don’t give opportunities to ‘young’ bands. At least that’s the feeling I have when I see the line-up of some of the festivals organized in Spain. I’m sure that there are many good bands here that we don’t know yet and it’s a pity. Here we have for example Angelus Apatrida, they are a great band, but do you think that someone would have supported them in Spain before they signed to Century Media? And why not? Why we don’t ‘bet’ here for the good national bands?
M.S: You’ll be at the nine edition of MFVF, which bands would you like to see?
I would like to see many, but at MFVF you usually have a busy schedule. You have to take all the stuff to the backstage about three hours before the show, signing sessions, interviews, photoshoots… so you cannot see all the shows you’d like to. At least this year we will be able to see again Doro and also Therion for the first time.
M.S: Concerning your show, what can the audience find on stage?
They will find a dynamic show with a band that really enjoys playing live and also some surprises: we will play 2 or 3 new songs, we will officially release our very first videoclip and there will be special guests as well!
M.S: What would you say people to attend the festival?
I’m sure that they will really enjoy the festival. As I said the atmosphere is really great and they will see many great bands and discover new ones. Many surprises are awaiting you, for sure!
M.S: After the festival, which are your more immediate projects?
Releasing our second album and promote it as much as we can, if possible with a European tour.
