M.S: Hola Brian, darte las gracias lo primero por conceder parte de tu tiempo a Metal Symphony. ¿Qué tal estas? Tesla ha editado en estos días un esperadísimo álbum de estudio, que lleva por título “Forever More” ¿Os ha gustado el resultado final de este álbum?
Brian: Si, estamos contentísimos con los resultados
M.S: Estamos sorprendidos con el sonido que la banda ha logrado. En nuestra opinión, habéis vuelto a vuestras raíces, suena muy parecida a álbumes como "Bust A Nut". ¿Estás de acuerdo Brian?
Brian: Sí, en el sentido de que, "Bust A Nut" fue producido por Terry Thomas, y "Forever More",y como así fue, creo que es de donde viene la conexión de ambos registros.

M.S: Una de las canciones que inmediatamente subió como la espuma fué “I Want To Live”. ¿Cómo se llegó a componer este tema?
Brian: En realidad yo empecé con esa canción basándome en un ritmo de tambor y un poco de guitarra. Se lo llevé a Terry y a la banda, les gustó y lo terminamos.
M.S: “Into The Now” fue un trabajo que gusto muchísimo a vuestros seguidores, ¿Crees que con “Forever More” se igualaran o incluso se superaran las expectativas?
Brian: Espero
M.S: ¿Cómo definirías las diferencias entre "Forever More" y el resto de álbumes (con especial énfasis en "Into The Now)?
Brian: La principal diferencia es que Dave Rude esta en la banda ahora, pero en definitiva somos los mismos Tesla.
M.S: Esta vez habeis optado por Frontiers Records, anteriores trabajos fueron editados por Geffen Records. ¿ Os habéis arrepentido alguna vez de algo, tras vuestro paso por Geffen Records?
Brian: En América tenemos nuestro propio sello llamado Tesla Electric Company Recordings. El estar en América hace que la mayoría de las veces, nos sea difícil hacer las cosas para el exterior, por lo que optamos por frontiers ya que nos gustó el trabajo que ha realizado con Journey así como la forma en que gestiona sus ventas al extranjero. Hemos hecho una buena elección.
M.S: Tesla ha llegado a vender 14 millones de discos a lo largo de los años pero ¿crees que TESLA son o ha sido una banda infravalorada en determinados momentos de la historia del Rock? ¿Podríais haber vendido muchísimo mas?
Brian: Algunas personas dicen que sí, algunos dicen que no, depende de cómo se mire. Después de 23 años volvemos a estar en la brecha haciendo nuestra verdadera música y lo más importante con nuestros seguidores de toda la vida.

M.S: Continuando con “Forever More”, uno de los temas que creo que más se alejan del sonido Tesla es “In A Hole Again”. ¿Cómo fue creado este corte y porqué quisisteis introducirlo en este nuevo trabajo de estudio?
Brian: Sí Supongo que sí. Yo no era consciente de lo que se estaba creando, era otra canción más que estábamos haciendo. No suena diferente a mí, pero si la gente dice eso, perfecto.
M.S: Siguiendo con vuestro nuevo trabajo, ¿Qué canciones crees que mejor podrían encajar en el nuevo set list de Tesla? ¿Cuáles son tus temas favoritos de “Forever More”? ¿Por qué?
Brian: No tengo favoritas. "Forever More" están en la lista como un conjunto y creo que todos los temas son aptos para estar en éste gran trabajo.
M.S: Te tengo que decir, que “Forever More”, nos ha encantado y que le hemos dado una puntuación de 9 sobre 10, es uno de los mejores discos de Hard Rock de este año 2008, habéis hecho un excelente trabajo. Me enterado a través de otras vías de que en EE.UU, hareis un show, donde abrirá la mítica banda de Phoenix, ICON. ¿ Cómo ha surgido que participara ICON, en vuestra gira por Estados Unidos?
Brian: Icon sólo abrió un show en Phoenix, y fué a través de la promotora.
M.S: Este año 2008, habéis estado en el Kobetasonik Festival, donde Tesla, realizó un show genial, ¿Qué recuerdas de aquella actuación? También estuvisteis haciendo conciertos en diversas ciudades de España, entre las cuales se encontró Zaragoza, ¿Cuáles son tus impresiones de aquel concierto? ¿Qué te pareció el público Español?
Brian: El público español es el más apasionado de todo el mundo. A Tesla nos encanta ir y tocar en España. Son increíbles.

M.S: En España, tengo constancia de que existen un gran número de seguidores de Tesla. ¿Crees que podríáis realizar una gira de presentación de “Forever More” para el próximo año 2009?
Brian: Ellos son grandes fans. Estamos planeando una gira europea en junio o julio del 2009, que incluyen tres o cuatro fechas en España.
M.S: Los conciertos de Tesla, son intensos, y con una puesta en escena realmente impresionante, se nota que lleváis mucho Rock en vuestras espaldas. ¿Cómo haceis para estar tan bien en directo? ¿Seguís algún tipo de norma determinada para preparaos ante una gira o concierto?
Brian: Una de las normas es no hacer lo mismo que hace 22 años. Otra es mantenerse fresco en todo momento,no descansar así como no dormirse en los laureles. Tienes que estar siempre al pie del cañón, y ser capaz de superar cualquier barrera que te pueda venir.
M.S: Tesla lleva muchísimos años en la carretera, y me imagino que os habrá pasado de todo…¿Qué anécdotas nos puedes contar en todo este tiempo como músico?
Brian: No hay una cosa en particular, pero ha habido muchos acontecimientos. Lo más extraño que me paso fue en Japón – había una niña escondida en el armario de mi habitación del hotel.
M.S: Bueno Jeff creo que esto es todo, darte de nuevo las gracias por parte de Metal Symphony, y vaya estamos deseando de poder escuchar en directo, los nuevos tema de “Forever More”, un saludo y muchas gracias por todo.

M.S: Hi Brian, I’d like to thank you on behalf of Metal Symphony for granting us some of your time. How are you doing? Tesla has just edited these last days a very eagerly expected studio album, “Forever More”, are you happy with the results?
Yes, we’re very happy with the results.
M.S: We were amazed with the sound the band has achieved. In our opinion, it’s like you went back to your roots, sounding very much like albums such as “Bust a Nut”. Would you say that is true?
Yes, in the sense that, “Bust A Nut” was produced by Terry Thomas, and “Forever More” was as well, which is where the connection comes for both records.
M.S: One of the sounds that we highlighted immediately was ‘I Wanna Live’. How did you come up with this song?
Actually, I started that song with a drum beat and a little guitar loop. I took it to Terry and the band and we finished it.
M.S: “Into The Now” was a very successful álbum among your fans. Do you think “Forever More” will do as well, or perhaps even better?
I hope so.
M.S: How would you define the differences between “Forever More” and the rest of albums (making special emphasis on “Into the Snow”)?
Biggest difference is that Dave Rude is in the band now, but it’s the same Tesla.
M.S: After working with Geffen Records, this time you have chosen Frontiers Records . What is this change due to?
In America we have our own label called Tesla Electric Company Recordings to do everything on our own. Being in America most of the time, it is difficult for us to do things overseas, so we chose Frontiers for that because we liked them for the job they did with Journey and how they managed their overseas sales. We’ve made a good choice.
M.S: Tesla has sold around 14 million albums. Quite a stat, but do you think Tesla has been in some way underestimated as one of the big rock bands?
Some people say yes, some say no, depends on how you look at it. 23 years later we’re still here and that’s because of the fans and our commitment to them and our music.
M.S: Another song that stands out is ‘In a Hole Again’, quite different that the rest of the album and of the Tesla sound we are used to.
Yes I suppose so. To me it wasn’t any conscious thing, it was another song we were doing. Doesn’t sound different to me, but if people say so, so ok.
M.S: Out of all the songs of this last album, which do you think are more fit to be included in the Tesla set list? And your personal favorites?
No personal favorite. It changes day to day Seven to eight songs from, “Forever More” are on the set list and I think they are all fit to be in it
M.S: “Forever More” has received a 9 out of 10 in our reviews section, being considered one of the best hard rock albums of the year 2008. A great band needs a great warm-up band, such as Phoenix’s Icon, opening your show this US tour. How did you get in contact with, and why them in particular?
Icon only opened one show in Phoenix and that came through the promoter.
M.S: This year you played in the Spanish Summer festival Kobetasonik, in the Basque Country. What can you remember of that, quite impressive, show? After that you went on to different cities of Spain, what can you say of the Spanish audience?
They are one of the most passionate Tesla audiences in the world. Tesla loves going and playing in Spain. They are amazing.
M.S: In Spain, as you probably know, Tesla has a substantial fan support. Is it possible that these fans will see you the coming year in a “Forever More” presentation tour?
They are great fans. We plan on a European tour in June or July of ’09 which would include three or four dates in Spain.
M.S: Your concerts are very intense, very carefully prepared, in which you demonstrate your virtuosity as well as your experience. What’s the secret, after an extensive career, to keep sounding fresh?
By not making the same you made 22 years ago. Stay fresh and don’t rest on your laurels. You always have to push the envelope and exceed boundaries.
M.S: A long career, in which many weird things must have happened… care sharing an interesting anecdote with our readers?
There is not one thing in particular that sticks out but there have been many events. The weirdest thing that happened to me was in Japan – there was a girl hiding in the closet in my hotel room.
