MS: Hola, gracias por contestar a nuestras preguntas. ¿Cómo estás?
T.V: Hola, ningún problema! Estoy muy bien, gracias, Muy muy ocupada en este momento con la pre-producción de nuestro próximo álbum.
MS: Como nunca antes habéis tocado en España, podéis presentaros a nuestros lectores? Contadnos algo sobre cuando y cómo se formó la banda así como vuestra situación actual y vuestro trabajo..
T.V: La banda se formó oficialmente en 2005 por Ben Notox (máquinas, teclado, composición en general) y por mi. En 2006 sacamos nuestro primer EP “Sleeping Among Serpents”, luego un año más tarde grabamos un EP digital disponible para descarga directa en Internet, “Revelations” y en 2008 nació “Vestige” un EP de 5 pistas.
Siempre hemos trabajado como una única entidad, llevando toda la promoción y contratación de los shows nosotros mismos, y tuvimos la suerte de girar por Francia, Alemania, Austria, Bélgica, Reino Unido y tocar en festivales serios como Wave Gotik Treffen para presentar todos ésos álbumes.
Ahora hay un poco más de gente a bordo con nosotros y estamos muy muy agradecidos por poder compartir nuestro sueño con ellos cada día. Hemos trabajado con varios músicos a lo largo de los años de acuerdo a lo que la evolución de nuestra música necesitaba. Esta nueva producción presentará dos miembros fijos en nuestras filas y, aunque no podemos hablar sobre ellos todavía, estamos muy emocionados por su llegada al grupo.
MS: Si alguien quiere reunir información acerca de vosotros, ¿Dónde podría escucharos o comprar vuestros discos?
T.V: Nuestro Myspace es una buena manera de empezar, por supuesto! www.myspace.com/theveilonline . Estamos trabajando también en un nuevo website para sustituir al que ya tenemos www.theveilofillusions.com que estrenaremos un poco antes de la salida de nuestro próximo álbum.

MS: Cómo contactó la organización del MFVF con vosotros? Les enviasteis antes vuestro material? U os llamaron ellos? Estoy seguro que estáis más que orgullosos de participar en este festival que se celebra anualmente, verdad?
T.V: No contactamos con ellos, pero Phil (el organizador del festival) había escuchado hablar de nosotros en uno de nuestros shows en Bélgica el pasado Marzo. Contactó conmigo después del show y me propuso la participación en la edición de este año. Por supuesto, no hace falta decir que estamos muy ilusionados por ser parte del cartel de este año! Es una gran oportunidad para nosotros y estamos muy contentos que el festival se interesara por nosotros.
MS: En estos días, dirías que tener mujeres en una banda de metal os deja en una segunda posición respecto a las otras bandas de la escena metal? Quiero decir, en el resto de festivales uno puede encontrar 2 o 3 bandas lideradas por mujeres. Consideras que el MFVF es una buena forma para bandas como la vuestra para tener la oportunidad de tocar en emplazamientos mayores?
T.V: Contestando a tu primera pregunta, sinceramente nuca había pensado en eso! Supongo porque primero que todo, no nos consideramos como una banda puramente metal, ya que nuestra música incluye un montón de sonido industrial y electrónico, junto con fuertes influencias góticas, todos los estilos dónde las mujeres han estado siempre tan presentes como los hombres en la formación de las bandas. Una vez dicho esto, no creo que la mayoría de festivales propongan sólo 2 o 3 bandas con mujeres a proporción de cualquier otro tipo de banda… Nunca me he considerado a mi misma como una “cantante femenina” sino sólo como “cantante”, cuando me gusta un cantante o una banda, normalmente no tiene nada que ver con su género, pero yo debo ser una excepción, jaja!
Una vez dicho esto, sí por supuesto, porque el MFVF está centrado en bandas lideradas por mujeres y abre una puerta enorme a muchas bandas todavía desconocidas. Pero otra vez, para mí, la calidad del festival no reside en el propósito de escoger bandas lideradas por mujeres, sino simplemente en presentar bandas con mucho talento y ofrecerles una fantástica exposición en un lugar maravilloso.
MS: El MFVF se caracteriza por contratar bandas de países muy diferentes para ir a tocar a Bélgica. Cómo está la escena metal en vuestro país? Recomendarías alguna banda a nuestros lectores?
T.V: The Veil tiene una peculiar posición en este caso, la banda está dividida entre 2 países, Inglaterra (dónde yo resido) y Francia (dónde vive Ben). Por lo que se refiere a la escena metal en Inglaterra, no es necesario que os presente a bandas como Motorhead, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride o Napalm Death…
En la zona de los “recién llegados” deberíais echar un vistazo a bandas londinenses cuyos nombres están empezando a ser conocidos , bandas como Death Metallers Ted Maul, Burlesque Electro Rock Maleficient, or Rock Metal I Nation.
En el otro lado del canal todavía hay muchas perlas por descubrir, dadle una escucha a Sybreed, Deathcode Society (unos de mis favoritos, personalmente) y en el lado de las chicas Kells y Markize os deberían fascinar.
M.S: Vais a estar en la octava edición del MFVF, que bandas os gustaría ver?
T.V: Siempre disfrutaré viendo a Arch Enemy, y Skeptikal Minds con los que hemos compartido 2 shows últimamente. Chambers es una banda que me gustaría descubrir en directo también. Es una pena que no vayamos a estar allí el domingo, pero si nos buscáis el sábado, probablemente nos encontraréis en el bar!
MS: En cuanto a vuestro show, que se encontrará el público en el escenario?
T.V: Un sonido muy pesado, una atmósfera oscura y lúgubre, y una alegría genuina de estar ahí con vosotros y un montón de numeritos de rock n roll!!
MS: Supongo que ya estáis tocando los temas de vuestro último album “Vestige”, que nos podéis contar sobre esto?
T.V: En realidad, nuestro setlist habitual es una mezcla de nuestros anteriores álbumes. El tema principal de “Vestige” habla sobre las secuelas del amor, las ruinas quemadas que quedan después de que la pasión se haya consumido. Queríamos presentarlo como un tipo de viejo diario de viaje , así que usamos algunas de las letras manuscritas que escribí mientras duró el proceso de composición, y las incluimos como libreto en tonos sepia. También presentamos nuestro “tótem” en la ilustración el V-Octopus, que podéis encontrar en nuestro merchandising y en nuestros banners. Nos encanta ésa pequeña bestiecilla, que se transformará en una nueva versión en nuestro próximo LP.
MS: Qué le diríais a la gente que para que asista al festival?
T.V: A los chicos, les diría seriamente que ese lugar va a estar lleno de chicas y que no tendréis ningún sitio mejor para estar ese fin de semana!
A las chicas les diré, “nenas, parece que todos los chicos van a estar ahí, así que será mejor que vayáis vosotras también, puede que vuestro príncipe azul esté entre ellos! Y si no lo está, ahí un montón de bandas, buena cerveza belga y una actitud amigable en general, así que uníos a la fiesta!”
MS: Después del festival, ¿Cuáles son vuestros proyectos más inmediatos?
T.V: Dos conciertos de presentación de nuestro nuevo álbum en Londres y Paris en enero, y luego nos metemos de lleno en la producción de éste nuevo disco. Habrán muchos más conciertos en Europa a partir del próximo verano, así que estad atentos!

M.S: Hi, thank you for answering our questions. How are you?
Hi, no problem, I am fine thanks, very very busy at the moment with the preproduction our upcoming album.
M.S: As you haven’t played in Spain yet, could you introduce yourselves to our readers? Tell us something about when and how the band was formed, your present situation and work…
The band was officially formed in 2005 by Ben Notox ( Machines, keyboards, general composition) and I. In 2006 we released our first EP, Sleeping Among Serpents, then a year later we recorded a digital EP available as free download on the Internet, Reveilations, and in 2008, Vestige, a 5 tracks EP was born.
We always worked as a sole entity, handling all the promotion and booking of gigs ourselves, and had the luck to tour France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the UK and play major fests such as Wave Gotik Treffen to support those various releases.
There are now a few more people on board with us, and we re very very thankful and glad to be sharing our dream with them everyday. Line up wise, we worked with various musicians throughout the years according to what the evolution of our music needed. This new production will introduce two full time members in our ranks, and although we cannot talk about them just yet, we are truly excited by their arrival in the band.
M.S: If someone wants to gather info about you, where could they listen to you or buy your albums?
Well the myspace page is a good start of course (www.myspace.com/theveilonline) We a re working as well on a new website to replace our former one ( www.theveilofillusions.com) that will be launched a bit prior to the release of our next album.
As for any purchases, all our releases are available as actual cd or legal digital download via the international platform www.cdbaby.com. We sell the Tshirts ourselves via our myspace page, but hurry up if you want some because we re nearly out of stock, and won’t reprint those items again !
I feel like a car seller now haha.
M.S: How did the MFVF organization get in touch with you? Did you send them first your material? Or did they call you? I’m sure you’ll be more than proud participating in this festival which is held every year, right?
We didn’t get in touch with them , but Phil ( the head of the festival) had heard about us and attended one of our shows in Belgium last march. He came to me after the gig to suggest our participation to this year’s edition. Of course, needless to say we are totally thrilled to be part of this year’s line up ! It’s a great opportunity for us, and we are very glad the festival got interested in us.
M.S: Nowadays, would you say that having women in a metal band leaves you in a second place concerning the rest of the bands in the metal scene? I mean, in the rest of the metal festivals you can find only 2 or 3 women fronted bands. Do you consider MFVF as a good way for bands like yours to have the chance to play in big venues?
To answer your first question, I honestly never thought about that ! I guess first of all, because we never considered ourselves as a “pure” metal band, as our music includes of lot of electronic and industrial sounds, along with a strong goth influence, all music styles where women have always been as present as men in bands line ups. This being said, I don’t think that most metal festivals only propose 2 or 3 bands with women out of a ratio of any kind, but simply because they are on the look out for wicked bands. I have never considered myself as a female singer, but simply as a singer, and when I like a band, or a singer , it generally has nothing to do with their gender. But I might be an exception haha. This being said, yes of course, because the MFVF is focused on female fronted bands, it opens a huge door to many yet unknown bands. But then again, to me, the quality of the festival doesn’t reside on its choice to propose female fronted bands, but simply on presenting very talented bands and offering them a great exposure in an awesome place.

M.S: MFVF is characterized mainly in hiring bands from so many different countries to come and play in Belgium, how’s the metal scene in your country? Would you recommend any bands for our readers?
The Veil has a peculiar position in that way as the band is split between two countries, England ( where I reside) and France (where Ben resides). As far as the english metal scene is concerned, no need to introduce you to some of the big names around, like Motorhead, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Napalm Death, wayyyy to many dinosaurs of metal to start quoting them all haha.
In the newcomer area, you should check a few london bands whose name start spreading around such as Death Metallers Ted Maul, Burlesque Electro Rock Maleficent, or Rock Metal I Nation.
On the other side of the channel, many many gold nuggets yet to be discovered, Throw an ear to Sybreed, Deathcode Society, some of my personal favourites, and on the girl side, Kells and Markize should ravish you.
M.S: You’ll be at the eight edition of MFVF, which bands would you like to see?
I will always enjoy watching Arch Enemy, and catch up with Skeptikal minds with whom we shared 2 gigs lately. 69 Chambers is band I’d like to discover on stage as well. Shame we won’t be there on the sunday, but look around for us on saturday, you’ll probably find us at the bar !
M.S: I guess you are playing tracks from your last album “Vestige”, what could you tell us about it?
Actually, our usual setlist is a mix of all our past releases. Vestige’s main theme was about the aftermath of love, the burning ruins lingering on, after passion had been consumed. We wanted to present it as a kind of old travel diary, so we used some of the manuscripted lyrics I wrote while in the composition process and included them in this passe, sepia paper booklet. We also introduced our “totem” for the first time on this artwork, the V-Octopus, that you can find on our merch and banners. We like this little beastie so much it’s gonna be declined in a brand new version on the upcoming full length album.
M.S: Concerning your show, what can the audience find on stage?
A very heavy sound, a dark and gloomy atmosphere, a genuine joy to be there with you and plenty of rock n roll antics !
M.S: What would you say people to attend the festival?
To the guys I’d say seriously, this place is just full of girls, you’ll have nowhere better to be that week end ! To the girls I’ll say, huns, it seems all the guys are going there so you’d better go as well, prince charming might be among them! And if he’s not, there’s still plenty of wicked bands, good belgian beers and a general really friendly attitude, so join the party!
M.S: After the festival, which are your more immediate projects?
Two showcases of our new album in London and Paris in january, and then heads deep into the production of that album ! Many more european shows will be on from next summer onwards, so stay tuned.
