M.S: Enhorabuena por este ultimo Ultra Beatdown, es un gran álbum. ¿Sientes que tuvisteis el suficiente tiempo para componer y grabar justo lo que queríais?
V.P: Siempre hemos sido muy perfeccionistas y muy decididos a la hora de grabar nuestros discos. Nos tardó casi 11 meses para acabar al complete este Ultra Beatdown. Como artistas que somos, nunca estamos completamente felices con nuestras obras, pero es cierto que nos ha quedado mejor de lo que jamás hubiéramos pensado.
M.S: Si pudieses rehacer el disco al completo, ¿cambiarías algo?
V.P: Personalmente creo que el album no puede sonar mucho major de lo que ya es. Siempre se podrían añadir cositas y jugar con efectos y volúmenes pero creo que este Ultra Beatdown ha capturado lo mejor de Dragonforce.
M.S: ¿La manera de afrontar Ultra Beatdown ha sido distinta a vuestros demás discos?
V.P: No, ha sido bastante parecido. Herman y Sam hicieron las demos de las guitarras en sus casas y yo los teclados en la mía. Fred grabó los bajos en mi casa también. Todas las voces y baterías se grabaron en Thin Ice Studios. Hemos utilizado muchos nuevos sonidos incluyendo el Theremine que se utilizó por primera vez en power metal. Creo que ha logrado aportar un nuevo matiz al disco. También experimentamos con muchas frecuencias y efectos, por lo que fue muy divertido todo.
M.S: ¿Cuáles han sido las primeras reacciones?
V.P: La mayoría de las opiniones que hemos leído son positivas. Vemos que nuestros fans y que la prensa reconocen el potencial de la banda y que nos apoyan al completo.
M.S: Vosotros habéis sido los encargados en mezclar y producir el disco. ¿Por qué?
V.P: Somos gente con unas opiniones y visiones muy claras. Traer a alguien de fuera quizá cambiaría la intención inicial de la banda, y nosotros queremos que el trabajo, aparte de sonar lo major posible, sea lo más auténticamente Dragonforce posible. Este control sobre todo el trabajo es esencial para lograr esa meta.
M.S: ¿Cómo has experimentado la evolución del grupo después de cuatro álbumes?
V.P: Hemos aprendido mucho sobre cómo debe sonar una banda, y hemos mejorado todos en cuestiones técnicas e incluso cuestiones de la vida. Escuchando los discos cronológicamente se puede observer esa evolución clara a más. Todo a mejorado, desde la producción hasta el directo, pasando por la composición.
M.S: Pasásteis por España en 2005, en el Lorca Rock con Dream Theater, Lacuna Coil, Iron Maiden, Stryper… ¿qué recuerdas de aquella experiencia?
V.P: Fue una experiencia impresionante. Nos lo pasamos muy bien. Los fans españoles nos tratan como si fuéramos uno más y tenemos muchas ganas de volver a tocar allí pronto. Recuerdo que hacía mucho sol y calor… buenos tiempos, ¡y buenas borracheras!
M.S: ¿Cuáles son vuestras expectativas para esta gira con Turisas?
V.P: Ya hemos ido de gira con estos tíos por USA, y son gente muy simpática y talentosa. Tenemos muchas ganas de volver a salir de gira con ellos por Europa, y seguro que va a ser muy divertido.
M.S: ¿Es muy distinto encabezar los conciertos?
V.P: Te sientes muy diferente. Lo prefiero porque el show completo con el juego de luces más impresionante nos lo llevamos nosotros, al igual que tenemos el escenario completo y no sólo una parte de él. Nuestro sonido es mucho mejor, los fans vienen primordialmente por nosotros, así que la sensación es mucho más agradable en general.
M.S: ¿Qué le traerá el 2009 a Dragonforce?
V.P: Más caos de la gira y más fans contentos.

M.S: Congrats, on the release on Ultra beatdown; it’s a great album. Did you feel you had enough time for you to be able to create the kind of album you wanted?
V.P: We have always been perfectionists and very strong in our vision when it comes to recoring our albums. It took us almost 11 month to full complete the recording of Ultra Beatdown. As artists we usually never 100% happy with the outcome but in this case we are pleased to say that Ultra Beatdown have came out the best we could have ever hoped for.
M.S: If you had to do Ultra beatdown all over again, would you change a thing?
V.P: I personally think the album sounds the best it can be. I could always add things to it and mess arounf with the volume levels but all in al i thinkthat Ultra Beatdown really captured DragonForce at out best.
M.S: Was your approach to Ultra Beatdown different than your previous albums?
V.P: It was similar. Herman and sam did demos and all of the guitar work at his house and i did my keyboard parts at mine. Fred did mostof the bass parts at my house too. All of the vocal and drums were recorded at Thin Ice studios. We’ve use dalot of new instrument including Theremine that was used for the first time in power metal. I thought it would give an album a different feel. We have also experimented with frequencies and subs and special effects which was alot of fun and made a huge different in a long run.
M.S: What have been the initial media reactions for the new album? Did you read any reviews of it?
V.P: Most of the reaction has be positive. We feel that the Media and our fan base truly recognise the bands potential and fully support it.
M.S: You produced and mixed the new CD. How come you do it that way instead of bringing in outside producers or mixers?
V.P: We’re very strong opinionated people when it comes to art. Bringing another person in would change the way we think and feel the direction the record should take. We want to deliver the best DragonForce record ever made every time we work on albums. This way we’re more in control of what we do and never have to jeopardize our sound.
M.S: How do you feel the development of the band through the 4 cd’s?
V.P: We have learned a lot and making better sounding albums now that we have more experience and skills. Listening back to our albums you can really tell how the band has moved on and developed over the years. We got a lot better at the production side, song writing and even live performance side of things.
M.S: You came to Spain in 2005 at Lorca Rock Festival with Angra, Dream Theater, Lacuna Coil, Stryper… what do you remember from the gig and the Spanish audience?
V.P: It’s been an amazing experience. We’ve a really good time. Spaish fan treated us like one of their own and we’re really looking forward to playing to them again. I rememebr it’s being very hot and sunny. Good times, drunken tims, lots of fun.
M.S: What are the expectations for the tour with Turisas?
V.P: We did a tour whit those guy all around the US. They are very cool guys to tour with and talented musicians and we’re really looking forward to touring with them in Europe. It’s great line up and it’s going to be a fun tour to be had.
M.S: Does it feel different to be the headliner of the evening and do you approach such a concert different?
V.P: It feel different. I like it because we get to do a full production show with all the lights and stage stuff we use. We also will have e better sound. More space gives us opportunity to run around and jump around more. I love the support we get from the fans and the energy. We always hang around fater playing our shows, sign stuff and meet our fans.
M.S: What will this new year 2009 bring to Dragonforce?
V.P: More touring chaos and more happy fans.
