Con tan solo dos años de actividad, Ad Infinitum están consiguiendo un gran feedback por parte de prensa y público posicionándose como una de las revelaciones del metal sinfónico actual con su debut "Chapter I:Monarchy". Hablamos con su guitarrista Adrian antes de que saliera su nuevo disco en acústico y que nos contara el motivo de volver a editar ese primer disco pero ahora desenchufados, además de presentarnos a la banda y como vivieron el streaming que hicieron desde Colonia hace unos días… Todo eso y más en las siguientes declaraciones…

Hola, ¡gracias por la entrevista! Tanto Ad Infinitum como yo estamos muy bien.
M.S: Sois una banda muy joven formada en 2018, dinos como surgió la idea de formar la banda, que estilo tocar, lo que quieras…
Fue idea de Melissa, le pidió a Nick (el batería) que se uniera al grupo, y él me lo pidió a mi (nos conocemos desde que eramos niños). Melissa quería creae un grupo de metal sinfónico y nosotros no hicimos preguntas. Nuestra respuesta fue “Oh, genial, ¡hagámoslo!“.
M.S: Y obviamente, como pensasteis poneros las máscaras y ese vestuario “dark steam punk”…
Nos gusta el ambiente oscuro de la música, los atuendos y las máscaras. Es una buena decisión para crear la imagen de Ad Infinitum. Por supuesto, es mucho más dificil tocar la guitarra con la máscara. Porque estás prácticamente con los ojos tapados.¡Pero me gustan los retos!
M.S: No sabemos si pensáis lo mismo, pero parece que sois la revelación del metal sinfónico, no creéis? Estáis contentos con vuestro primer “Chapter I”?
Estamos muy contentos con nuestro primer disco ¡y aún más felices de que a nuestros fans les guste!. Siendo sincero, no se exáctamente qué pasaba en la escena de metal sinfónico antes de Ad Infinitum, así que no puedo realmente decir si somos los “ siguientes mejores“. Está bien sentir que la gente nos ve de esa manera, pero estoy acostumbrado a mantener mis expectativas bajas. Estamos haciendo lo mejor que sabemos y tenemos las miras puestas en lo alto, pero queremos seguir con los pies en la tierra.
M.S: Si vuestro primer álbum es “Chapter I”, continuaréis con más capítulos? O lo pusisteis de forma "aleatoria"?
¡Definitivamente continuaremos con más capítulos!
M.S: En pocos días publicaréis un disco en acústico, ¿Qué podremos encontrar allí y por qué lo editáis ahora? ? ¿Es algo que ya teníais pensado hacer?
Vais a escuchar un disco de metal acústico muy detallado, como nunca se ha hecho antes en el género. Debido a que nuestras giras se cancelaron (por el COVID-19) justo después del lanzamiento de nuestro primer disco tuvimos que pensar en hacer algo para no “ desaparecer“ justo después de dicho lanzamiento. Y como a mucha gente le gustaron los dos temas acústicos que se incluían al final de la versión deluxe del álbum, por eso decidimos hacer el disco en acústico.
M.S: Vimos vuestro genial streaming en Cologne, ¿sabes cuantas personas os vieron? ¿Ves que los conciertos en streaming sean una solución estable para que las bandas podáis ofrecer material en directo a los seguidores?
Más de 73 mil personas vieron el concierto. ¡Y la respuesta fue sobrecogedora! Pero no creo que los conciertos en plataformas de streaming sean un buen sustituto de los directos reales. Es diez veces más trabajo y cuesta mucho dinero. Fue una buena experiencia, pero es algo abstracto.
M.S: Para este nuevo disco os habéis quitado las máscaras, no pretendíais dar una sensación de misterio y no saber quién toca cada instrumento?
Si, queríamos tener algo de misterio, pero no siempre. En las redes sociales de Ad Infinitum por ejemplo siempre estamos sin máscara. Y también nos quitamos las máscaras para el disco en acústico porque queríamos que hubiera algún tipo de evolución.
M.S: Suponemos que para promocionar el disco acústico saldrá algún vídeo, no? O haréis otro streaming?
Habrá otro single en acústico, ¡espera y verás!

M.S: Hello Adrian, it is a pleasure to have you here, we hope you are well …
Hi, thanks for having me! Me and Ad Infinitum are doing very well!
M.S: You are a very young band formed in 2018, tell us how the idea of ??forming the band came about, why did you decide on that style … whatever you want…
It was Melissa’s idea and she asked Nik (the drummer) to join the band and he asked me. (We know each other from when we were kids). Melissa wanted to create a symphonic metal band and we didn’t ask any questions. We just were like: „Oh cool, let’s do it!“
M.S: And obviously, how do you think of wearing the masks and all that “dark steam punk” clothing …
We like the dark vibe of the music, the costumes and the masks. It was a good decision in order to create the image of Ad Infinitum. Of course it’s much harder to play guitar with the mask. Because you’re kinda blindfolded. But I like those kind of challenges!
M.S: I don’t know if you have got the same reactions, but you are like the revelation of current symphonic metal scene, don’t you think? Are you happy with your first “Chapter I”?
We are very happy with our first album and even happier that our fans like it! To be honest – I don’t know exactly what happened in the symphonic metal scene before Ad Infinitum – so I can’t tell if we are really the next „big thing“. It feels nice that people see us that way, but I’m used to keep my expectations low. We are doing our best and we aim high, but we want to stay grounded.
M.S: If your first album is “Chapter I”, will you continue with more chapters? or did you put the name at random?
We will definitely continue with more chapters!
M.S: In a few days you will release an acoustic album, what can we find there and why are you releasing it now? Was it something you already had in mind?
You’ll hear a highly detailed acoustic metal album how it’s never done before in the genre. Because our tours got cancelled (due to Covid-19) right after the release of our first album we had to think of something, that we won’t dissapear right after our first release. And since many people liked the two acoustic tracks at the end of the album’s deluxe version, we decided to do the acoustic album.
M.S: We saw your great streaming in Cologne, do you know how many people saw you? Do you think that streaming concerts are a stable solution for bands to offer live material to fans?
More than 73k people saw the show. The feedback was overwhelming! But I don’t think that streaming concerts are a good substitute for real concerts. It’s ten times more work and it costs a lot of money. It was a nice experience, but it’s kinda abstract.
M.S: For this new album you have removed your masks, did you not intend to give a sense of mystery and not know who plays which instrument?
Yes, we wanted to have some kind of mystery, but not always. On Ad Infinitum’s social media platforms we’re always talking without the masks for example. We removed the masks for the acoustic album because we wanted to evolve somehow.
M.S: We suppose a video will be released to promote the acoustic album, right? Or will you do another streaming?
There will be another acoustic single, you’ll see!
